Yeah, DBM was also the most straight forward DGD album. My least favorite, but it's still (rock) solid. So far Mothership is sounding almost like a culmination of years of experience, and finally being able to really lock in on a sound since they didn't have another vocalist leave after two albums. It feels more confident.

Really into the new single, that's two for two from this album for me. Hopefully I'll finally get into a Tillian DGD album, ha.

I don't really see a big difference in style between AS & IG, at this point it just sounds like DGD and that's not a bad thing. I prefer the former though.

Anyway I really like Betrayed By The Game and the video is fun.

I can honestly say that AS and IG blur together for me. They were, I believe, the two closest releases from the band, and the sounds were very similar. These last two tracks are very unique compared to those two albums which I like and am pleasantly surprised by. Many songs with Tilian I can't decipher between by memory except for a handful including these two, Strawberry Swisher 3, Honey Revenge, The Jiggler, Turn Off 2, On The Run, Something New, and Death Of A Strawberry. Pretty much all the songs I return to with him.

I have more of an outside perspective, since I never listened to this band until last year, and only checked them out because of Tilian/TOM. But I hear a noticeable difference between AS and IG, and definitely prefer the former. Despite the wacky lyrics, AS feels more like atmospheric prog to me and more similar to Tilian's work in TOM. IG, for the most part, sounds less cohesive and more like a collection of one-off tracks; also more like they're just trying to make "fun" music. I like the two singles for this new record, but they seem to hint at a continuation of the second approach.

Agree with this, but much prefer IG. I cannot for the life of me recall the technical terms I want to use, but to me IG as an album has primarily "happy" sounds/chords (songs like Eagle vs Crow, DoaS, WotN), while AS has more moody & sad sounds/chords (songs like AS, TotL2, both Robot songs). There's a way better way to explain what I mean but this will have to do :crylaugh:

I prefer IG to AS. For one AS was the only DGD album without Krummet, and it shows. That bass is super hard to hear.

In to say I'm literally shaking with excitement for this new album.

Also, my album ranking for reference:
    1. Happiness
    2. Instant Gratification
    3. Acceptance Speech
    4. Self-Titled
    5. Downtown Battle Mountain
    6. Downtown Battle Mountain II
    7. Whatever I Say Is Royal Ocean

Based on what we've heard, though, Mothership is gunning for that number one spot.

My ranking is is also my vocalist ranking.

    1. Instant Gratification
    2. Acceptance Speech
    3. Happiness
    4. Self-Titled/Deathstar
    5. Downtown Battle Mountain II
    6. Downtown Battle Mountain

I don't really include EP's into rankings, especially very demo-ie sounding ones.

Also, I really want just one more song from Mothership before it drops. Don't want to hear the whole thing until I get my pre-order, but I want one more single.

The exact same order as me lol.

Edit: just realised that the DBMs are the wrong way round for me. Still close though.

I could maybe make an 8-10 song album out of the tracks I like off of the last 3 albums. Which ain't bad I guess. Rest of the songs are pretty bad imo

If you like Kurt/Happiness, you would probably like at least a few songs on the selftitled. The album is kind of inconsistent though (at least in my opinion) so I don't know that you'd like it as a whole. Alex English, Me and Zoloft, and Caviar (this one has the dude from Deftones on it) are my favorites from it. People You Know is easily my least favorite song in their whole discography though, and I'm also not too big on a couple others on it.

So not only do I prefer AS over IG by a decent margin; I also think it has better production. Seems like both of these go against the consensus.

I like Kris Crummett's work with Tides of Man, Kaddisfly, and others, but IG seems a bit muddier and harsher than those. It's one of those over the top compression jobs that sounds good on iPod earbuds or listening in the car, but I would say AS sounds better on decent speakers in a quiet room.

I love Acceptance Speech's production the most out of their whole discography. It kind of has an atmosphere to it, and feels like the only real production risk the band has done. I also just like Matt Malpass more than I like Krummet, seeing as Matt is also responsible for production on Lydia's "Illuminate", and mixing and/or mastering of a couple Copeland records.

AS is definitely better than IG production wise.

Opinions are all over the place now huh? A year or two ago most agreed that s/t was the best, with Happiness at a close second.

Anyway s/t is still my favorite

It's not surprising that opinions are so different when they've had 3 different vocalists who are all quite different though.

I'm surprised people think Acceptance Speech's production is better than the Crummett-produced albums... I couldn't disagree more. The production is the one thing that makes me return to that album less than I would otherwise, and I just don't think it suits them very well.

Anyway, Chain Fest was AMAZING and DGD crushed it!! Between all the bands and Emo Night afterwards, one of the best days I've had in a long long time.
