yah heard the whole album, i've got an interview w/ tillian coming next week or so. i think my favorite song is "Philosopher King," it's very heavy and i imagine kids would kill each other to it at shows don't think anyone will be disappointed, threw me for a loop first listen but i like it a whole lot
I can't believe I'm seeing DGD tomorrow for the first time at Chain Fest, along with Coheed, Circa, Underoath, Hail the Sun and a ton of other great bands. Gonna be amazing! I'll need to check the new song later, hopefully they play it if people are digging it this much!
Would be so easy for them to play as it literally has 3 sections, repeated twice I think I've worked out the main guitar already!!!
Speaking of, I was also supposed to get an advance press copy but didn't. Heeeeeeyyyyyyyy you wanna PM me yours?
Just when I want to write them off, they reeeeeeeel me back in. Fantastic song/video blah blah guess I gotta see them at the (new)Masq again
Doubt Mothership passes S/T or Happiness for me. But it definitely seems like it could be the best of Tillian's records.
Yeah I actually saw the line up for that and thought wow that's pretty decent. Turnover, Basement, TSSF, too right?
I feel like the only one who isn't totally jazzed for this record right now, and I've been jazzed for everything they've done in their careers haha. Feels a little bit like I'm approaching "eh, I've heard it before...." with them
I'm stoked for this album but to an extent I agree, or at least think it's a fair point. What's doin it for me though is the vocal melodies. Both songs' choruses are outstanding. The last album didn't stick with me much for that reason.
It may not be groundbreaking in terms of DGD style, but it seems like it's going to be the strongest as they really settled into their songwriting here. Don't forget, he said this is their weirdest in a while, so we might be getting their most standard tracks first.
he also said it was the heaviest. I don't care for the rise recordsy heaviness chugga chugga they've ushered in on the last couple albums with entire songs being dedicated to it. so weird that they waited until 5 years after that was popular to do it. At first they said it was a self aware joke when they did it on demo team. But I don't give af what kind of joke it is because I don't enjoy it
ETID's use of chugga on Cheap Life's is my fav Mayne. And just because it's heavy doesn't mean chugga. I thought the breakdown on Awkward was supremely satisfying. But to each his/her own!
As someone who thinks Tillian is the best singer this band has had (just an overall fan of his voice, obviously Johnny and Kurt have great voices as well), I have to say that I have really loved the sound he has brought to them. I always describe him to people who have never heard him sing as "Anthony Green but a little rougher around the edges" and I stand by that. The dude has some serious pipes. This new single only reinforces that belief.
I only think that this is "more of the same" from them because this is literally the first time in the bands existence that things actually ARE the same for them in terms of their line-up! With the constant member changing in the past there was always enough variation in the music (coming almost purely from the vocals) - now it will have to be more subtle because we all know what each member sounds like/plays like! It won't matter though - if you can't see how AS and IG were stylistically different then u dumb lol, and that was the same 5 dudes as this new album will be! TL;DR
People still don't realize that DBM is the heaviest album they released. The band sounds astronomically different now, but as for the song structuring and actual breakdowns they play on that album, it remains their heaviest work overall. This last song had a much more simplistic feel but stayed DGD. I think that's why everyone is enjoying it so much. It's the first really close throwback to their old sound.
