I've been an avid listener of DGD for 9 years now. They've always been a go-to for me and have always put on a fantastic show (even when Jonny was blackout in 07). But I can't help but cringe at a large majority of Tillians lyrics. The melodys are killer but jeez, Louise. That said, I'm sure mothership will slay in every other facet.

 

I love the new single but the whole "looking so classy feeling so fancy" bit makes me cringe. I liked his lyrics on like 50% of acceptance speech and instant gratification though

 

The new single is fantastic... I think this could end up being their best album with Tilian. Also the new Sianvar is one of the best albums from that post-hardcore scene in quite a while imo.

 

i've been listening to the sianvar a lot; i liked their EP quite a bit, and i like this album more with each listen, really impressive stuff.

 

It definitely deserves more attention around these parts I think. It has the potential to appeal to some people who might not be super into DGD/ALLB/Stolas/Hail The Sun imo.

 

Yeah Acceptance Speech is really really good. Especially those last 3 songs. I want some more of that. On the Run is also a banger.

I like that line! Probably cause it reminds me of this group of "popular girls" in my hometown that are kinda bullies/bigots but think dressing up nice & going for cocktails makes them "classy" lol.

Edit: The full line is "dress-code, cocktails, looking so fancy, we feel like we're a little bit classy" which def looks lame written down

 

Lame lyrics have just become a part of DGD for me and I've grown to enjoy them. I try not to take it too seriously.

 

I really don't get the singular hate for Tilian's writing; it's better than Jonny's, Will's and Jon's at least. Kurt is the only DGD writer who ever was particularly good at it, but even then he had his fair share of "cringe" lyrics.

And honestly, there is no moment more cringe in DGD's discpgraphy than this:

That was when they were super angry at Jonny though so we can excuse them for that!

 

I never batted an eye at that one. There's plenty worse to cringe at. But I think you're doing it wrong if you're taking anything from this band at face value as self aware as it all is

people you know all those years ago kind of felt like it had some hip hop beef lyrics lol

 

The whole song is an irrational tantrum and I love it.

Not at all, at least in my opinion, especially on that record. YOURBITCHWASHITBYATRUCK! WHATTHEFUCK!

 

I'm seeing them in my favourite venue in November and it's now sold out and I'm so excited omg.

 

I believe what we see here is a difference in what makes different people cringe. I love people you know and jonny's lyricless scatting. What I don't love is a grown ass man singing "I just wanna be a kid agaaaaain" at the highest register. All subjective though.

 

As a clueless casual fan: do we know for sure Tilian writes the lyrics he sings?
