Yeah, it really seemed like on DBMII he was seeing how much nonsense he could get away with while on Acceptance Speech seemed more like he was going for an actual narrative.
going back to album rankings i go S/T>Happiness>IG>DBM1>AS>DBM2, though weirdly i think i like tillian more than kurt. the new one is going to be very weird
I'm at a point of acceptance with the lack of a single, I'm essentially gonna go from zero to a hundred in terms of my interest when the single goes up finally. I have a really good feeling about Mothership though, don't know why exactly, but I think it could be their best album.
I have this same feeling and I'm really excited about it! Also according to Tilian's Twitter, there's been "a wrench in the plans" re:getting the single out. Sounds like label/legal stuff considering the music is all mixed and mastered.
Yeah honestly I can't wait for a single. I've absolutely loved the Tillian/Jon Mess combo so far so I'm excited to see what they can do.
Huh, hopefully that all gets figured out then. I think that tweet mentioned it being out in a week or two though so that's good.
My head is currently spinning, someone on the DGD subreddit is trying to argue with me that Tree City Sessions isn't a live album because it was mixed and mastered.
Tell 'em if they close their eyes, they can imagine it's in a venue with a really good sound engineer.
That's the thing, they think any recording in studio or on a stage isn't live if the audio is edited (mixed). Hahah
Damn I wish I wasn't at work all day so I could hear this. I've been dying for something off this record since it was announced.
It says on Spotify that it'll be up on there tomorrow, so guessing it's being officially released today or tomorrow.
Tilian's voice is great in this one. Unfortunately, I'm starting to see DGD becoming a bit formulaic.
This has to be my biggest fear about the album, full stop. How do you release albums so close together (anything less than 2 years is close to me) and not have them start to sound similar? Same thing happened to Future and I stopped listening to Future, haha. I'm gonna wait till its on Spotify to listen. But it's killing me.
Finally found this thread, not sure how I missed it before. Been a longtime DGD fan and needless to say I'm stoked for the single to drop tomorrow.
Oh no I didn't think his vocals were bad, the actual lyrics he was singing I didn't like. I felt like band is anything but formulaic. They've always impressed me by finding new things to do.
As a recent DGD newcomer, their lyrical content perplexes me. So many cringe-worthy lines on their last LP that I took it as largely tongue-in-cheek, but maybe I'm wrong. The lyrics on Acceptance Speech were a lot more palatable without taking that view. New single is solid. I think I like it better than at least half of IG.
