I'm an idiot, and didn't realize they were playing a show down the street last Friday. I totally would have went. Let me know how they are live.

 

I almost liked a Jon Mess lyric finally, then I found out I heard it wrong. Thought it was "But I'll take your guilt in the form of tithes" but it's "But I'll take your guilt in the form of dollars". Damn it.

 

They were pretty good! The show was super empty, which was a bummer. I think it's probably because The Fall of Troy were also in town last night.

 

DBMII is my favorite album I think.

People You Know has the cringiest lyrics with the cringiest delivery ever pretty much. Kurts "hidden" track on it though is great. I love Kurt.

 

People You Know absolutely destroys. We need more Jon-only tracks.

 

That's what Secret Band is for. Haha Jon is without a doubt my least favorite aspect of the band, so I'm glad they have that project so we don't get more People You Know's in DGD, and people who do want that kind of thing have the option. Jon's screaming back then wasnt very good, but the lyrics on that song are at least as bad as the lyrics on Say Anything's newest album so that kills the song for me.

 

If you think the lyrics are bad for People You Know then I don't think you get the song. It's probably my favorite on that album, and one of very few songs where I actually got what Jon was going for.

 

Jon has my favorite scream of any vocalist, love his absurdist style as well.

 

I love Jon's scream DBMII and forward. Hate his lyrics though. I've never really thought about how has my favorite scream though. Huh. Maybe I'll look into that sometime.

 

but how discernible are his lyrics. its easy for me to ignore all of this bands lyrics because I want to especially his, given the delivery

 

Everything about Jon is amazing. Justin Vernon should step aside and let Mess do the vocals for the new Bon Iver album.

 

It depends on the song for me, some songs I have no clue what he is saying and I keep it that way, others I make it out pretty easily even though I don't really want to. People You Know I was able to understand pretty instantly, while I have no idea what he is saying 95% of the time on Acceptance Speech. Most of DBMII I can understand, those lyrics are so bizarre they at least make me laugh though.

 

DBMII is a treasure trove of Mess classics.

That weird badass oven line/verse makes me laugh every time I hear it. haha
