almost 4 months of listening to this album regularly and l can confidently say I love it and it is a great album. maybe it still is recency bias but I am still enjoying it and finding more to like about it
I cannot stop listening to The Stickler. Found the guy who produced the guitars + bass for the album's Youtube Channel where he breaks down what they did on the song, so good: Edit: Parts 2 & 3 are shorts which I guess you cannot embed in a post? They are well worth checking out if you like production stuff
nice video, I like those shoegazey chords from Will at the beginning. yeah I really love Stickler. at this point the only song I'd say I'd skip out on is Yikes, Strawberry's Daughters really grew on me after being iffy on it for a while
Yikes is amazing, that is the song that has grown on me the most. The intro section in particular I really like, great guitar parts in the left speaker/earphone
I feel like the only two weak/forgettable album closers they ever released are "Lost" on Instant Gratification and "Have A Great Life" on Jackpot Juicer. Every other album closer they've ever released were top tier songs on first impression at the time I heard them and got constant re-listens from me for a long time.
Jon Mess saves the song With Instant Gratification, I felt the first ten songs were really solid, and then there was a noticeable drop off with Variation and Lost.
IG was my favorite from the tilian days but have a hard time listening to it nowadays. my fav from it was prob eagle vs crow
Like most albums from the tilian era it has a good amount of filler but also like most albums from the tilian era the highs are soaring
Stickler's heavier elements are something I wish they'd experiment with in the future. Those metalcore elements work REALYL well for them. And would also give them a break on the same elements they've started to repeatedly use. Still digging this album which is wild considering I didn't know how Andrew was going to do.
Tour announcement should be soon, any ideas? Some hints we got in a livestream were that - The Direct Support is a band they toured with a long time ago in the early 2000s and has done warped tour a few times - Next support is "everyone's favorite Swancore bad" - First support is a French(?) Band
Having a hard time thinking of who the direct support could be. Maybe A Skylit Drive or Attack Attack! I bet the Swancore band will be Wolf & Bear or Royal Coda. I was hoping it would still work out with Chiodos. They’re both playing the same day of Sonic Temple in May. Doesn’t sound like they’d fit any of those descriptions though.
“a band they toured with a long time ago in the early 2000s” doesn’t though. As far as I know, DGD has never toured with Chiodos. Maybe it will be A Skylit Drive with Jonny Craig on vocals and Royal Coda. Jonny and Kurt could come out for a few DGD songs.
I could’ve sworn they toured together but upon a quick search it seems they never did. A Skylit Drive in 2026 being direct support would be super depressing lmao
Looks like they played a couple shows with Chiodos, TDWP, and Alesana in 2007. Other bands that fit the bill include Silverstein, A Static Lullaby, Escape the Fate, Blessthefall, I See Stars, Poison the Well https://www.concertarchives.org/bands/dance-gavin-dance?page=71#concert-table
