I was listening to a lot of Eidola today and yeah the lyrics and the mixing of his vocals there are just light years better than on here lol. hopefully they go back to that sound for him, Nothing Shameful shows how well it can work in dgd
Yeah I listened to Nothing Shameful the other day before listening to this and was honestly shocked at how good it was. Felt like such a tease, because while this album is good, he sounds unreal on his part on that song.
I probably need to go back to Nothing Shameful and see, as I thought all the mixing was good. However I am a real rookie when it comes to production stuff. my favourite ‘section’ of the whole album is the part with Jon doing cleans on Shoulder to Cry On, but there is one vocal part that comes in in the last few bars that I just cannot make out (panned left in the mix) - with 4 vocal parts, two guitars, bass and drums maybe there is so much going on that you cannot realistically get a clean mix or something?
I find it strange people are saying they don’t like Andrew’s vocals or aren’t used to them when he’s had vocal parts dating back to evaporate, nothing shameful, and then had a much bigger presence on JJ with songs like jeers and one man’s cringe, and all four of those songs are pretty much the best songs they’ve made since arse. He’s a natural fit to my ears because he’s already contributed vocals to their best stuff in recent years
The absolute last thing the world needs is a djent band fronted by tilian. Such a mismatch of styles and it’s legitimately embarrassing to listen to
I’m quadruple posting but I don’t care, I would love for this band to go back to shorter albums with 12-18 months between releases like the early days. Granted 16 new songs doesn’t sound short. They need an editor in the studio badly
That's something I realized when reminiscing about Happiness, which was all killer no filler. All their post-Instant Gratification albums are bloated to some extent
gotta disagree here, Eviscerate rips. Mend was a little silly but Faustian Spirit is a jam that pops up in my head at least once a day so I'm glad it exists for that song alone
100% agree, and it's not even that I can single out the songs that need to be cut from every album after that, it's just that it gets a little tiring by the time I'm at the end. Story of My Bros should've definitely been cut though.
Like I said earlier I think arse, afterburner, and jackpot juicer have this problem the worst, but jackpot is just loaded up with so many songs it naturally winds up having more hits than the other two. Arse completely loses steam for me after count bassy and never really picks back up until evaporate. And tbh on afterburner there’s very little I enjoy between lyrics lie and say hi
I used to be 100% in the camp of "More DGD the better! Bring on 20 song albums!" and by the time we got to Jackpot Juicer I was just wanting the album to end. Would be happy if they were to trim the fat off future releases. Andrew sounds more fresh to me and an auditory relief from Tilian's staleness towards the end of those albums. Happy to have him from here on out.
100% they need to trim albums. I do like this album but it does feel fatiguing to listen to the whole thing in one go, it's just slightly too long for me sometimes. however if you listen to gingivitis right after descend to chaos it is really fitting and feels like a nice treat lol also will say I loved andrew's part on war machine so I also hope they mix him more like that going forward. I like andrew a lot, just really hope he shies away from as many layered vocals. it's nice when done tastefully and sparingly but can be a little tiring if it's all the time
War Machine is so good, if there was a version without Tilian that might be the best song from this whole era
I understand why they cut it since it wouldn't really fit, so good though lol that was how I was feeling about it, I can understand not liking it but the sheer hatred that people have been spewing about it has been confusing me
I will reiterate again I can’t stand it lol. It’s also not even close to being their best song in the last 7 years that’s wild to say
As someone who never really listened to DGD but has tried to get into them, the history and discography of this band and its rotating members is so incredibly confusing.
It’s less confusing when you consider the core group of dgd to just be will, Matt, and Jon and view it that way throughout their entire history sans happiness
