Andrew is a breath of fresh air IMO He has respect for Jonny and Kurt's creative contributions to the band and I feel like he will build upon the foundation they set for DGD's sound rather than stray too far. Hoping for a new album that really lends itself to being performed live. I feel like Tilian did some cool stuff in the studio, but those layers upon layers of harmonies he would record never really translated live. Some of it might have been following modern industry trends, and it works great for good sounding albums, but at least for me, I like listening to an album and feeling like it's an even better experience to hear it live. A lot of the Tilian recordings were better in the studio than live. Tilian would either match his parts live or just not do certain parts altogether and sing something that was easier to pull off in concert. Tilian definitely did this on his own songs for both of the Tree City Sessions, to the point that I only enjoyed Tilian doing Kurt and Jonny songs on those releases. I felt like Tilian fell flat on his own songs on Tree City Sessions and rather than improving upon the songs, Tilian's songs were better on the studio albums. Jonny and Kurt (at least post-DGD) are much more enjoyable for me to hear and watch live. There's a jazz improv element to how they perform, and Andrew is very similar in incorporating that (watching some of the Evening With Friends tour videos from 2022). Rather than try to do songs from the Tilian era, they should scrap the majority of that material. I think they might feel forced to perform We Own The Night, and maybe a few songs that Andrew heavily featured on like Evaporate. I feel like DGD is at its best when the focus is on the two guitars, bass, drums, and the vocals feeding off of the energy from the music.
They're apparently releasing the lead single "The Conqueror Worm" on the same day Tilian's solo album drops, May 16th.
Dang, Rise Records taking all of the momentum away from Tilian. I feel like if Rise was legitimately supporting Tilian, they'd do it on separate days.
Rise hasn’t made a single post about Tilian’s solo singles or album at all. I don’t understand why they keep him on the label but refuse to promote him.
Only thing I can think of is Rise fulfilling the bare minimum of their contractual obligations with Tilian but nothing more beyond that. That's pure speculation from my end. Otherwise it's weird that out of all days they could have picked to release DGD's new single, they pick the same day that Tilian's album is coming out. You could either feel that it overshadows Tilian's release, or maybe helps in some weird way. Maybe Rise intended for DGD fans to stream both DGD's single and Tilian's album on the same day.
Been listening to "speed demon" and "straight from the heart" on repeat this morning. Can't wait for the new album and can't wait to see them soooooon.
Buncha shit been leaking. Presave link was up for the album and single (first single is Midnight at McGuffy’s, May 8th) the music video for it was on Vimeo since April 2nd but got taken down once reddit posted about it. https://dancegavindance.lnk.to/Pantheon
That is not good. Was hoping Jon would save it but he sounds weird compared to his past couple albums.
Actually like this more than most of the past couple albums, Andrew’s vocals bring something fresh here imo
I actually dig it. It’s different enough that I can’t really see it fitting on any previous album. Seems like a fresh start.
just found Midnight at McGuffy's online searching on google Jon sounds so great on this, this is some of the most well-rounded work of his career the vocal harmonies Andrew does on this are really good, but they're going to be hard to replicate live without pre-recorded backing tracks also, once the release date and album title are officially announced, can we make a new thread for it? feels weird posting on a Jackpot Juicer thread knowing we are no longer in the Tilian era
I can't tell yet if Andrew does a few of the screams. Some of the screams I can clearly tell it's Jon doing them
