A DGD record with Nate would be so weird, I'd love to see it. He absolutely would not be able to nail any of the songs live from previous eras aside from MAYBE Kurt's stuff, but fuck it
This is their best album since Mothership, and that was their best album since Happiness (imo). Didn’t feel like it was much different from their last 2 albums on my first couple listens, but after spending more time with it this weekend, it’s grown on me a ton. The instrumentals a downright amazing and fun, they remind me of Happiness in parts as is the most funky they’ve been since then. Jon’s vocals and Melodie’s are also top notch on this as well. The weakest part to me is Tilian, not only because of what transpired but also his vocals sound completely one dimensional in a ton of the tracks, very processed and mechanical. Andrew’s parts provide some of the best clean vocal moments imo. Provided that Tilian doesn’t comeback to the band, I’m hoping Andrew takes over full time on vocals. While his voices can’t hit the high notes that Tilian does, I think his range could allow them to go in new directions (more funk, prog or even r&b influences ) as his voice is more diverse and suited for those genres than Tilian’s.
I could be wrong, but I genuinely don't think at this point Kurt would come back and I don't think Andrew would give up Eidola to do DGD full time, but that's just me. I could be wrong, and have been wrong many times.
i assume everyone in the swancore orbit would give up to play in dgd. its lookin kind like a minor league farm system since andrew and sergio have been coming around.
i need to check eidola again i think. i remember them ripping but not ultimately finding it memorable from a melody standpoint. andrew did a good job on JJ.
Curiosity finally got the best of me so I'm checking this out. Andrew's vocals sound so damn good on Jeers.
I mean Andrew is already in DGD as a full-time member, plus Eidola doesn't tour as much, so he could easily make it work. But yeah I can't see Kurt coming back full time though, won't fully count it out, but it's less likely.
A page or two back someone said they heard from an inside source new vocalists are being auditioned. Could be bullshit but I doubt it
If DGD does replace Tillian, I hope it’s someone with just a little bit of a lower vocal register by comparison.
Also, on this current tour, they're tuning down the guitars so they can play the Tilian songs in lower keys, and honestly it sounds really good. I don't think matching Tilian's range is as much as a concern as just getting a charismatic and talented performer.
Tracks 2-4 on The Architect rip, the rest is great but it’s a great barometer on if you’ll be into the whole thing.
I hope it’s not Andy Cizek, I feel like he’s gotten famous on singing YouTube covers and hitting high notes but he sounds super boring to me.
Yeah you can check footage from this tour on YouTube. The little I've seen shows them playing in Drop C instead of Drop D for example. From a songwriting standpoint, it would be neat to hear them play in a lower tuning again. They already do here and there, as they've got some songs in Drop C#, but I'd be interested in hearing them use many more tunings. Maybe it would help their stuff sound less samey as it would open them up to more keys to write around.
Yeah, and Makari’s album with him is great imo. That’s when he really won me over as a fan after I was pretty meh on some of his earlier stuff.
I just listened to the first two songs on the Monuments album and feel the same as before. Maybe it’s because I’m not really into their style of djenty metalcore. I’d give him a shot in DGD but not going to exactly excited about it.
