I spent a decent amount of time sharing my opinion on Reddit and it felt like me and the other 2 people that were pointing out all the reasons why tilian need not return, would constantly get dragged, called every name in the book, argued with into oblivion. It was exhausting and thankfully I stopped going to that subreddit altogether. It's refreshing to see people having actual conversations here instead of the constant "he made an oopsie and said sorry, why can't everyone forget about it and move on, he's the best singer, he's so great" bullshit.
Have had no interest to check out the new track. What a bummer, but I just can't really support these guys right now, and potentially ever again, depending on how they decide to move forward.
I understand where you're coming from. I haven't listened to any DGD since this and I'm going to be in limbo until there's a clear and concise answer to the question: is tilian out of the band? It sucks/is kind of funny though too because Will is a part of Royal Coda and I've been listening to their new singles non stop because I want to support Kurt, Sergio, Joe and Steffen. Same thing with Secret Band, I love that band, but it's hard to support any of these projects because I don't want to support someone who is going to continue working with a rapist. In my opinion that's what tilian is and I think he has a slew of other issues that make him being in the music scene a big problem. I have no problem not listening to tilian era of DGD ever again and I barely listened to his solo stuff, but those are blocked on my Spotify permanently. I'm kind of surprised how easy it's been for me to cut DGD out of rotation completely. I have tons of good bands and artists to recommend if anyone needs/wants new music and to support some genuine people. Sorry for the length of this post!
I'm not so strong to say I won't listen (and most likely enjoy this) when it comes out, but they definitely won't get anything from me (outside of Spotify royalties) on merch, vinyl, etc. until this is resolved. I'm with you on Royal Coda though. Fully excited for that one while JJ is feeling kind of bittersweet to want to listen to right now.
For what it's worth, I started working on a Swancore playlist over several months before all this unfolded for bands that sound like DGD but aren't DGD. Admittedly there's a few DGD songs in there, but maybe only 3 or 4 max? Worth checking out if you want to scratch that itch but aren't quite ready for DGD to do that yet. Also plenty of new bands to discover. :)
Right now I don't think anyone outside of the band truly knows the answer to this. I've seen comments (not here) from people thinking Tilian's just on a simple little break and they can't wait for him to come back, like that'll fix everything. But then on the band's Wiki page, someone moved Tilian to the 'past members' section. I'm also in this limbo. I started listening in the Tilian era so he's the only singer I knew. Someone introduced me to this band because my name is Gavin and I wound up actually enjoying it. Now, I completely stopped listening and idk if I will listen to the new album.
I do too, but I can't bring myself to pay reptilian It's an interesting situation because I remember when CJ McCreery was the vocalist for Lorna Shore and they were set to release a new album when one of his ex's I believe came forward with allegations against him. Granted, I don't remember every detail of that situation, but the band kicked him out immediately even knowing they were about to drop a new record with his vocals on it. Comparing situations is just something I've been doing because it's so interesting. To keep the comparison on Rise Records, when Tyler Carter of Issues was accused of SA by one anonymous tweet, he was gone immediately as well. That was one tweet that no one has any idea the validity of. Tyler made statements denying any wrongdoing, not saying "yeah, that happened, but it was a misunderstanding". Here, the same label has this same situation happen again, but three different woman come forward, one has very strong information to back up her encounter, but somehow tilian is technically still in the band? It's so bizarre, but it also goes back to Dance being Rise's cash cow.
There were several allegations against Tyler though, including by members of Marmozets and Miss Fortune, the one tweet was just the one that came out first.
Another comparison is the band Lotus Eater which happened last year. They were rising very quickly in the metalcore scene, and many people thought they’d be the next big thing. *Two weeks* before their debut full-length was set to release, serious allegations came out against their vocalist. Not only did they kick him out… the entire band broke up and they actually canceled their album release. It still has never been released.
That's true, but Lotus Eater's situation was a little bit different. They had a completely different line-up except for one member due to allegations, and then got a new line-up in the run up to finishing off and releasing the album. Then allegations came out for the new vocalist and I just think due to the ongoing reputation and stress they just put the whole thing to rest. That one remaining member throughout the line-ups now has a new project called Love Is Noise.
Did anyone watch the music video? I saw the band post on Reddit that "The video isn't intentionally edited to show more or less of any member".
The subreddit is absolutely off the rails, they think everything is a conspiracy theory and that Rise is trying to drop them. Both Rise and DGD have had to address the subreddit and be like, chill, everything's fine (I mean, it's not, but not in the way that the subreddit is thinking).
I haven't watched it, don't intend to, but the people on reddit made it sound like the video looks kind of poorly edited and there's barely any tilian or Tim in the video. Which made my theory: they edited tilian out and Tim's shots just happened to be scenes where tilian was also in the shot or they were one right after the other kind of thing. Just a guess though.
They said that wasn't the case. The videos weren't finished when stuff went down with Tilian, so parts had to be filmed with only the four remaining dudes.
I saw some of that. When I first read Dance's response saying they didn't intentionally show more or less of members, I had a bad feeling, but as I let it marinate, I started thinking maybe they're just saying this because they know the tilian stans would lose their shit if they found out they actually edited him out some. Also, his stans are the ones buying every piece of merch that they throw out there. Their response also made me question the validity of what they said, because (not verbatim) they said they shot the music videos in February, ran out of time, that they were supposed to finish this video before swanfest and the spring tour. I thought that was weird because wouldn't you want to be practicing before fest/tour and making sure all i's are dotted and t's crossed? Why would you want to add the pressure of shooting a music video during that same time? When Jon tweeted that Tim would be in the next three music videos, that statement came out before the allegations and for Tim to barely be in the third video (supposedly) seems odd to me. Just speculation.
shortly after all this unfolded i concluded the subreddit really IS as bad as i had feared this whole time. i definitely wont be going back there for my sanity.
That is a very good idea. I just checked it and someone said SA isn't that big of a deal. Even if Dance kicks him out, I don't know that I wanna be a part of whatever the hell this is anymore. Those kind of people ruin this band and this music for me personally.
I got on YT yesterday for the chat before the video premiere just to see if it would be members live or a text chat or what. It was only Jon in character as the rat king which was weird enough but then it was clearly all the stans from twiter/reddit just going nuts the entire time. It was really embarrassing and weird. At one point, Jon said: You all are more cringe than DGD
New song is probably the best of all 4 singles. Feels weird being this indifferent about music from one of my past favorite bands.
I really wanna be able to separate the art from the artist here, but the wound is still so fresh & the fanbase is still so toxic, I have no desire to listen to these songs more than once if at all.
