I think the fact that the survivor described his private behavior in a way that has strong parallels to his public persona is noteworthy.
Story is just awful. I hope Rise investigates this immediately. Just noticed the mods locked the thread.
Rise won't do a thing, and DGD probably won't either. This is a band/label that brought Jonny back after what he did, and continued releasing his music with Emarosa after that.
@beachdude, you know the victim, so asking a question: this statement in the beginning "I want to preface this with saying I'm not looking to “cancel” anyone. I’m not hoping for some *statement*.", she has to have known this is what people will ask to happen, yeah? EDIT: I bring this up because it will probably get twisted into a "we're respecting the victims wishes and we aren't kicking Tilian out, but with a good support system he'll learn and grow from this experience."
Don't want to speak for anyone, but what she wants in terms of not wanting to cancel anyone doesn't make it any less valid for her to bring her story forward and protect other women. How others will react is not her problem.
Sure. I think she's just stating that her own *personal* goal is just to make other female fans aware so that they can avoid falling into a similar situation. Last I talked to her, she was aware that there may be other repercussions also, that just wasn't the reason she personally decided to come forward.
Hmm maybe you're right, most of the SA stuff with Jonny seemed to come in to the public eye during his DBMII warped tour stint with DGD if I remember correctly.
Honestly I think it's kinda bullshit that survivors are expected to say "I'm not trying to cancel anyone" now. Like she literally says Tilian doesn't deserve a platform, and I agree and wish she could say it with her chest. But unless she puts that little disclaimer in, the entire conversation will be dominated by jackasses going "This is woke cancel culture" and "innocent until proven guilty" and "why can't I just have a different opinion?" because they can only see allegations against their fave as a personal attack on their interests.
I’m so sorry for your friend @beachdude she sounds really brave and I hope she has the support she needs right now. This was really sad to read as a fan. Not sure if the band can or should come back from this tbh, but they certainly shouldn’t move forward with Tilian.
I was always worried something like this might come out with Tilian based on things he's said and people he associates with, but was kinda hoping I was wrong. This is fucked. It starts bad then gets increasingly worse/more disturbing. @beachdude I hope your friend is able to recover and move on in a healthy way. I'm sorry this happened to her.
the comments on the reddit thread are fucking horrible. he sounds like a real piece of shit and hopefully the band is able to reckon with that and do something about it.
I assume this gets brushed over, but I hope I’m wrong. DGD cult bros won’t give a shit and we have seen that bands like ATL/STD can get through this shit with little long term repercussions. The only way I see this doing anything is if Coheed does anything, but even then I’m doubting they do since DGD is a big draw for their summer tour. I really hate the lack of accountability in this scene and how abusers can basically do whatever they want. This sucks, but hopefully if anything it prevents people from being abused in the future.
Maybe I'm naïve, I think a big difference is that Josh Woodard/Chris Conley were cases of grooming and abuse of power, but this one is actual rape. Like, I think there's this visceral repulsion to sexual violence that's much harder to overcome than sexual coercion (even though, obviously, both can be equally harmful). Hopefully that makes it harder for Tilian to wriggle his way out of this one, but who knows.
Tilian already responded. https://www.reddit.com/r/dancegavindance/comments/v2oubx/regarding_recent_allegations/
fan reaction is just awful man. these people are saying a ton of allegations in the scene are false and I’m like…which ones? because they’ve all been true lol
Yep, that's what I expected him to say. In the past he had some people online saying he was racist and it was disproven (how I don't know), so it's probably easy for the masses to think this is another case of that.
Funny how when the victim posted her story the reaction was “we need proof” and when tilian posts his story it’s “knew it was false”
He basically confirms everything she said as far I read it. How can he determine what was and wasn't consensual? If she disagrees or felt uncomfortable then it wasn't.
Yikes, that response does not inspire confidence. He just admitted to everything except for the rape, which is... still bad. Even if he didn't rape her, he still emotionally abused her, abused his power, and held her against her will. That's worse for his image than just flat-out denying it would be. Awful response, not even taking a bit of responsibility.
It’s really gross how many people I’ve seen today (on Reddit) using “she does sex work” as a reason for disregarding and attacking the victim.
Tilian just shared screenshots of his text messages with her https://www.reddit.com/r/dancegavindance/comments/v2s5d3/screenshots_of_text_exchange/?sort=new
