I'm gonna make a crazy analogy, but this album to me is shaping up like Fast 5. In that movie, the Fast franchise became totally self aware and fully bought into the joke and it was the most entertaining one up to that point. This album feels like DGD knowing exactly what formula works and what fans want to hear from them and just going all in.
theyve been one of the most self aware bands i can think of since like their 2nd album. so much sillyness and its incredible.
This song is so gosh darn fun. It doesn't break the formula at all, but it's just so goddamn catchy. Jon's parts are especially fun.
Good song, I can tell it's one of those ones for me where the more I listen to it the more I will appreciate it. Love the heavy riffs in the right headphone!
love the formula of both vocalists having their own choruses. its fun as hell and natural if you have two vocalists, theyre both so good at being catchy too. i also much prefer how concise but dense af these songs are instead of some of the longer playtime deep cuts on their older material where theyre covering alot of ground with alot of parts but that might also be doing things that are a little more conventional by comparison.
Running through the discog in reverse order, how is this band so consistent? This will be their 10th album!
I think Story of My Bros is the last song they released I didn't like. Might be my least favorite Tilian song.
really loving the guitars on the new single, they are way more complex than you realize at first listen, definitely a good song to put on some headphones and really dig into the instruments. also jon's chorus with the layered vocals is sooooo good!
This song reminds me a bit of Head Hunter, the guitar riff in particular has very similar notes & technique (lower string tapping in Drop-D with tons of hammer ons/pull-offs), and over the riff Jon is spelling out words in both songs. I am so bad at hearing/trying to figure out Jon's lyrics though lol, it took me about a year to realise he was spelling out "Bless This Mess" in Head Hunter, and in this song I was like "what is he spelling out, N-G-L-B-I-N-G?... What is Nglbing?!"
I agree, definitely reminiscent of Head Hunter for me as well. Don’t mind though because that song is dope
As of this comment of mine, this is #11 on YouTube's Trending page. 1 spot ahead of Charlie Puth. Wild.
Saw the band tonight - they sound fantastic but feels silly to not play any of the Andrew-featuring songs.
There’s only two songs with vocals from him currently to be fair. I love both those songs, but when they have so many songs to pick from and generally don’t play that long of sets, I get why they wouldn’t always make the cut.
Oh yeah, wasn’t even counting Lyrics Lie haha. But the new album will also have several songs with Andrew lead vocal parts, so I’m sure we’ll hear some of those on future tours.
I haven't seen a proper headline since the Deathstar days, lol. Might see them twice this summer though.
They’re fantastic with the current lineup (minus Tim who was with them when I saw them) but yeah I saw them last fall for the first time since happiness and was floored
