second favorite of the tilian era easily. too much bloat on it though. need another lean record like acceptance speech, keep these guys to 10-11 tracks and they can really do something special. the last few albums have veered a littttttle too much into their super indulgent side, increasing album to album.
Acceptance Speech is very easily my fav of the Tilian records. I think Instant Gratification is probably my second fav, but Mothership isn’t too far behind IG. Artificial Selection didn’t really click with me, but I also didn’t really give it all that much time either. So idk, it’s my least favorite as of now, but I’m sure whenever I’m obsessively binging this band’s music again, I’ll re-evaluate it and end up liking it more. That’s basically what happened with all the other Tilian records.
It's my 3rd fav overall, and Son of Robot in particular is one of their top 10 best songs - the fact it came out in summer helped as I have some really positive memories attached to some of the songs (same with IG), whereas I have some negative ones associated with Mothership and AS unfortunately
I definitely agree that this album is bloated and front heavy. A few of these songs can easily be cut. Still, I think this is my second favorite of the Tilian era and my fourth favorite overall.
I was really hoping Mess would utilize his melodic screams more often, they sound fresh. But he only uses it twice on this album.
This band is weird to me in that I love DGD, but not really a fan of any of the side projects... at all. I think Eternity Forever and ALLB are the only things I like that are off shoots of this band. All that to say, every part of DGD is needed for me to enjoy it fully. Tilian, Mess, Will, etc.
Normally I would have a lot of sympathy but knowing what kind of person he is I honestly don’t have much. He’s had so many chances.
Sounds like Jonny’s girlfriend this year is a big enabler and also an addict. She’s currently fighting on twitter trying to place the blame on others “asking for drugs” for when their friend group got together before this band left for tour. She bought the drugs, brought them, but is saying she did them only cause her friend kept asking to do it with her. So sad how an addict’s mind works. Grasping at anything to rationalize their actions. A real disease and problem. I also looked up his instagram. He didn’t lash out at the band, says he understands and is going to rehab but who the fuck knows. At this point, I hope for him that he can survive long enough to see some stability in a quiet personal life away from the music scene.
Was more of just a laugh at the general shitshow of him getting kicked out of a band that was literally “the Jonny Craig project”, but I can see how that looks bad given the circumstances of his departure. I definitely don’t think addiction is a laughing matter.
