Yeah there's a point where showing people how much you don't care backfires. Because that's people's lives that you're saying you don't care about sometimes. That's really only cool if you're in middle school.
This is the shit that wants me to make music. To give people someone who doesn't have their head in the sand or up their asses but existence is so hard on its own that the creative, ambitious side of me has died. Maybe you have to be an unempathetic, privileged, or otherwise lucky person to "make it'.
i think social media ruined it and just shows how shitty everyone is deep down at some point. even if i "made it" id be exposed eventually, i've got skeletons too.
I think that the biggest difference is that these people seem to dig in deeper when faced with the consequences of thier actions, while I've seen you take very real steps to address your flaws. Everyone is flawed, but that's the difference between good and bad people, Imo. Good people address their flaws and bad people treat their flaws as something only "crazy" people care about and double down on harmful behavior.
I think I’m just at a point in my life where, if the transgressions aren’t on the level of abuse and just boil down to someone being an asshole, I’d rather be blissfully ignorant or shrug it off than dwell on it and get mad. I know that in a way contributes to the toxic culture but it’s just not healthy for my mental state right now to spend too much mental energy on it
The more I’ve learned to really pick my battles in life, the less constantly on edge and depressed I’ve been. *shrug*
Tilian isn't necessarily harming others, just really coming off as a "I made it so i'm the cool guy now and offending people is funny." Like, if that's genuinely your personality, sucks to be you. If you're talented and I love the art you put out, I will support it because that's what being a fan is. Separation of the artist and art works in this sense. However, Tilian, don't you think DGD's fan base has had enough of the asshole vocalist regiment?
I mean it’s super easy to just not tweet the kind of stuff Tilian is posting. I wish he’d keep quiet.
I’m moderately confused by the response to that tweet. It’s a joke about the general state of online discourse, he's not necessarily taking shots at any side, nor necessarily trying to be edgy (unless you think pointing out Twitter is filled with dumb shitheads qualifies as such).
hes acting like both sides are just as bad which is fucking ridiculous. you see, one side is calling for genocide while the other is fighting against it
I think it was less about equating both sides (whether in conduct or argument) and more about pointing out people's general propensity for lazy cognitive shortcuts to justify lack of honest engagement. Obviously alt-right and liberal are exceptions there given they refer to a more rigidly defined ideological position, and thus probably a bad example given that some people sometimes just aren't worth engaging (assuming the label's being applied faithfully and correctly), but the rest (except misogynist as well, again with the same caveat) are all squarely ad hominems. I think the call for civility is usually misplaced and misguided, but honesty (which imo is a subset of that) remains important. If you do choose to engage with an actual fucking asshole, you don't have to sensationalize what a fucking asshole they already are. But if they're only kind of an ass, or perhaps not one at all, and you treat them like a fucking asshole anyway, then you're who that tweet was about.
Album - Nuoro - In the Hills (August 24, 2018) This band is the new project of Sean O’Sullivan, DGD’s original second guitarist from DBMI era! It also features his Consider the Thief bandmate (and ArtSec co-producer) Dryw Owens, and a couple other really talented members of Ourfathers and I’m a Lion, I’m a Wolf. I’ve heard their full upcoming EP and it’s absolutely captivating... nothing like DGD, but if you love gorgeous melodic indie rock/emo in the vein of Happy Body Slow Brain and As Tall As Lions, give them a listen!
Tilian did RT a pic from a producer in a studio (maybe one of the ArtSec ones?) working on DGD music. Possibly the instrumental version of the album that was mentioned a while ago?
There's a rumor of them remastering/mixing Acceptance Speech so it may uave something to do with that...
