idk if i could narrow down a top 5 but i do know my top 4 that's pretty much never gonna change jesus h macy carl barker people you know backwards pumpkin song the next spot would be a toss up between like 10 different songs.
This would be a really fun band to do a whole lot of superlatives for: Best chorus, hook, song, album, vocalist, mess part, etc
their discog is ridiculously deep at this point its insanely impressive it kind of blows my mind anytime i think about it. ive seriously been listening to them non stop for over a week and havent gotten sick of it at all because im always switching between albums and they're all super different.
I mean everything but the intro and the tillian chorus is a chug breakdown. Theres like 4 of them. But yeah I agree DGD puts their spin on it as always.
i would argue chugging alone doesnt make something metalcore or scene. russian circles have a shit load of chugging in their songs for example.
like i know what sound you're talking about but it really only happens as an overtly chug breakdown once or twice, the other times there's something unique or different about it or its used as a transitional piece.
Thats a good argument. It just sounds a bit like those specific kind of scene Rise etc. bands to my ears.
i think chugs arent bad automatically and it all depends on context and in context they work and carve is an excellent track.
dont ask me why but ive been revisiting woe, is me this week and idk carve is a far cry from that shit.
The rise sound is present in that song but that’s not necessarily a bad thing either. For a band that screams this much I’m expecting some chug sometimes.
I listen to the track so that means I like it I love this band so Ill take ownership of their work and criticize it like anything else Carve is a clever track though really
i think jons screams will always stop them from ever sounding like true rise core lol, even when they are doing that full on in carve jon's screams keep it fun and wild as fuck.
When did everyone first get into DGD? I started listening in very early 2010 during the Happiness era right before Jon rejoined the band. My first time seeing them was in summer 2010, which actually ended up being Kurt’s final show.
Lemon Meringue Tie was on a playlist. Got DBM and liked it. Then Deathstar came out and was my album of several years. Lots of playtime on that one.
My brother discovered them on myspace sometime between DBM and Deathstar and, to my shame, I just used to mock them because of Jonnys vocals being so "high pitched" and Jon's screams being "weak as hell". Then when Happiness was released he played Tree Village and I was hooked. Started finding out as much as I could about them and discovered Zac would post on a Coheed & Cambria fansite called Cobalt & Calcium lmao. Signed up to that site purely to ask him shit about Happiness and the band etc; he was kind of an asshole when he would post but the other people on there were way worse. Was in deep & spending hours in that DGD thread around the time Will kicked him out, I was devastated!
Wow, now that I think about it...I’ve been listening to this band for 10+ years and I still love them. I remember listening to TNR to school all the time, and then was following them at the beginning of the s/t cycle. The intro to Alex english blew my mind as a youngun. Then Happiness happened and the rest was history.
lmao I remember that place, it was good for Amory Wars story deets but so many people were absolute garbage This is the right take
I remember discovering them on Myspace (!!!) and clicking play on Times New Roman. Probably 2007? Whoa, that was 11 years ago. I'm old. I've been hooked ever since, with a brief intermission when DBM2 came out. Still can't get that into it to this day.
my first time seeing them was Happiness era in a small bar in Birmingham, AL with like, 30 people there. It was incredible. Tides of Man actually opened, before Empire Theory came out. My friend and I loved Tilian's voice, comparing it to Anthony Green at the time. Funny to look back on that now. Only other time I saw them was DMB2 era at Warped. Not as fun, but still cool.
I've been listening to this band on and off since 2009 or 2010. Always had friends who were really into this band and they just never clicked for me despite trying just about every year. It wasn't until last week when Jake kept talking about DGD nonstop that I checked out Artificial Selection and thought "wow this is really good and I need to listen to their discography now." Whatever wasn't clicking for me before all started to and I couldn't be happier. It's been a blast going through this band's discography over the past week. They are pretty much all I've been listening to.
