I absolutely love evaporate though. Tilian and Jon absolutely destroy it with the call backs and Andrew Wells sounds ridiculously good, would love for him to become a full time member and have his voice back up tilian on record
Yeah Powder To the People is mesmerizing. Off topic I’ve always loved their song titles, but I esp love all the song titles on Happiness.
I always thought the title I’m down with Brown town was about anal but having grown up and well been through it it’s clearly about heroin as are the lyrics
Powder outro, Buffalo first verse, and Hot Water on Wool reprise have notes falling out of the sky love the subtle wah on the lines in Powder
ive gone in and out of phases with this band since i heard dbm over 10 years ago but artificial selection has gotten me back into them big time.
AS1 is easily my favorite from this band but I have to admit that Demo Team is not good. Carve is decent, though far from the highlight of the record.
also really hard to pick a favorite opener from them. jesus h macy probably takes the cake but theres so many amazing options. tree village, son of robot, alex english, we own the night
I started off saying opener is probably easy for me than closer but now I’m not so sure Jesus is definitely the favorite but after that it’s a tossup. Probably chucky or Alex English next? But the bridge in we own the night is so groovy.
jesus h macy might be this band's best song outright. what a huge statement as the first song on tilian's first record. proved right off the bat he is not fucking around and is not here to fill anyone's shoes, made it clear from the jump this is his band now. (obviously its wills band but you know what i mean).
im listening to carve and yeah i just dont see the criticism. the heavy "metalcore" part is a fraction of the song. the first verse is super mathy and and urgent, tilian's hook is soaring, and even around the 1:15 part where the heavy part kicks back in the guitar switches up to be infinitely more interesting. its far from a carbon copy of that chug metalcore style, and there's plenty of surrounding parts of the song to make calling the majority of the song "metalcore" completely incorrect.
Although not my favorite, Man of the Year is an excellent closer as well. That one has really grown on me recently especially after seeing it live.
That’s an incredibly difficult title to place but Jesus would definitely be up there for me. It’d be some tossup of: look north, Jesus, robot w human hair 4, frozen one (my favorite) Edit: pumpkin was my favorite until frozen one existed, but I think Zoloft may be their best chorus
man of the year is my second favorite on mothership behind young robot. but mothership is still the album ive spent the least amount of time with, even less than arse, so i need to get more familiar with it.
