This album is definitely growing on me over time. I think my initial disappointment was based on the fact that when I first heard Midnight Crusade, I didn't expect it to be one of my favourites, but it is lol.
I haven't really dug any of the Tillian era stuff bar the odd song like We Own The Night. Last album I really enjoyed from these guys was DTBMII. Stuck this on yesterday and really like this. Dunno what has changed but it just worked for me.
whats the metalcore stuff on here? story of my bros is fun and better than all the pop punk being made today so im not mad at it.
i would go back and try acceptance speech again. its almost my favorite dgd album at this point, very close to overtaking happiness.
DBM: Fave - Open Your Eyes - Least Fave - Strawberry Andre Deathstar: Fave - Uneasy Hearts - Least Fave - Uhhhh... Rock Solid or Caviar? This is hard. Happiness: Fave - Carl Barker - Least Fave - Also tough... I'm Down With Brown Town or Self-Trepanation DBM2: Fave - Need Money - Least Fave - Pounce Bounce AS: Fave - The Jiggler - Least Fave - Demo Team IG: Fave - The Cuddler (peak Jon, IMO) - Least Fave - tough, probably Legend Mothership: Fave: Young Robot (so many highs, this could've been 4-5 songs) - Least Fave - Petting Zoo Justice ArSe: Fave - Evaporate - Least Fave - Gospel Burnout That was fun and really hard honestly.
I think they were doing it to be ironic, kind of like Story of My Bros, but it doesn't work as well IMO.
Jon’s screams on dbm2 are weird though. He sounded better than self titled and dbm but still if you listen to AS he’s wildly different from there’s on out
I still really love the way he sounded on Deathstar too even though hes better now. Sounded so raw and angry there. Only release I dont like him much on is DBM1
I like both dbm and Death Star because it’s very skramz/Black metal but he’s undoubtedly better now and his technique allows him to not completely destroy his voice now
Jons amazing really. He would shred in a skramz band. Hes up there with the best of them at that sound.
Hair Song is amazing. I think they do these concise sort of songs the best. Pounce Bounce and Stroke God are a couple more really good other examples of this out of many in their discog.
All the dislike for Acceptance Speech in here hurts my brain and my heart. It's arguably their best for me
I do like AS1 quite a bit, but it'll never be my favourite as it has Tilian's worst vocal performance by far.
The production on Acceptance Speech is very flat. There is no distinction between guitars and the drum track sounds like it wasn't even touched. Tilian sounds over-produced however, and it's astounding how much better he sounds on the later albums. I'm also not crazy about the track order, just doesn't flow well as an album. There are some true gems on it though like all DGD albums.
