I don't mean to be rude or anything, but DGD has been on the Billboard Top 200 and has over 700,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. How many monthly listeners do you have? Ya' burnt.
Finally saw a DGD headlining show for the first time last night. Man, that was a blast! After being a fan since DBMII era, I was so glad I finally got to see them, and the crowd’s energy was infectious.
All the Tillian albums still run together for me, this one was fine but I'm not like really wanting to listen to it over and over.
Anyone have a list of song references they use in Evaporate? Tilian also mentioned they'd add that to the setlist eventually.
“Surprise, I’m From Cuba...” “Me and Zoloft Get Along Just Fine” “Times New Roman” “Acceptance Speech (title track)” “Tree Village” “We Own the Night” “The Backwards Pumpkin Song” “Alex English” Source: Genius... I don’t think they missed any lol
Surprise! I'm From Cuba ("Step back, let go") Zoloft ("Oh you should've listened to your friends, you would have been over this by now, over this by...") Surprise!/Untitled ("I believe there's meaning, no I believe there's nothing") Times New Roman ("...noooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooowwww, I'm found") Acceptance Speech ("Who drains the blood from my head? I do, I do. Who accepts me as I am? I do, I do") Tree Village ("Repeat repeat our history") Tree Village ("What excuses do you make?") We Own the Night (see title) The Backwards Pumpkin Song ("For one good note") Alex English ("Well don't it feel good? You got what you paid for")
And as it happens, Evaporate isn't the only song with references: Slouch: "Tastes just like a can of broccoli" Elder Goose: "Accept fresh, fresh can of broccoli" Or maybe Mess is just running out of ideas.
They’re no worse than Jons really. It’s still by far my least favorite of their albums but I like at least two thirds of it a lot
I’d put artificial selection right in the middle of their discography at this point, which is high praise considering the strength of their discog
1. Instant Gratification 2. DBM II 3. Mothership 4. DBM 5. Artificial Selection 6. Self-Titled 7. Acceptance Speech 8. Happiness
I think I would go... Happiness Mothership Dance Gavin Dance Instant Gratification Downtown Battle Mountain Acceptance Speech Artificial Selection Downtown Battle Mountain II
To be fair Happiness definitely deserves to be higher from a musical integrity standpoint, but it has like 4/5 amazing songs (Strawberry Swisher 2, Carl Barker, NASA, Don't Tell Dave, Powder To The People), and the rest are extremely meh (Especially Tree Village and Happiness)
