Okay so for those who care: Kris Crummett produced guitar and drums on this album, Dryw Owens produced bass, and Erik Ron produced vocals. And Owens mixed every track except for "Son of Robot" (Crummett) and "Midnight Crusade" (Ron).
I listened to Mothership right when it came out but haven’t gotten around to this one. I guess I’m not in the mood for DGD’s lyrics and for this album, I’ve only seen the ones posted itt which have all been awful. Plus if it’s not better than mothership, idk if I really care anymore unless they’re doing something different/innovative
Mothership seems to be peak Tilian/producing. If ArSe had Mothership’s production/performance, it might be tops. Right now I’m at: Mothership > Instant Gratification > Artificial Selection > Acceptance Speech Although the first 3 can all be put on shuffle and I’m going to love all of it. Also, how do you not like the outro to Count Bassy, I got such a huge grin when I heard that first time. Vintage DGD.
I think youre refering to my comment on Count Bassy. I just hate the hummed vocal part. The bridge is sick af otherwise.
Oh okay, that makes sense. Yeah sorry, I’m on mobile, it’s a little cumbersome to quote when I’m reading and catching up.
The record is really growing on me. It’s not as good as Mothership but I ain’t mad at it either. I don’t mind the production either. Tilian era: Mothership > Instant Gratification > Artificial Selection > Acceptance Speech Overall: Happiness > Self-titled > Mothership > Instant Gratification > DBMII > Artificial Selection > Acceptance Speech >>>> DBM is overrated as hell
I know Dryw produced Summertime Gladness, but yeah I'm wondering the same thing. Why not just have one main producer?
the production shit explains why the instruments dont really gel together as well as they have on previous releases. its kind of obvious there's a different producer on the different instruments, and that's not a good thing at all.
Production here is def a drop-off from Mothership. Also, after listening quite a bit the past week, I'm coming to realize this falls cleanly below Mothership and AS for me. I only really dig about 2/3 of the tracklist, and the novelty is already wearing off on some of them. As someone else mentioned, nothing here really matches Young Robot, Philosopher King, and a few others.
I still enjoy most of the tracks here, but it's definitely a bit below Mothership and probably AS for me too.
Only thing my novice ears don’t like about the production on AS2 is I thought tilian sounded better/cleaner on mothership and I liked that a lot. I saw them tonight and the show was terrific, crowd was great too. Somewhat shocking set list deets: Only played midnight crusade and count bassy off the new one. Very mothership-heavy set. One or two songs off IG, nothing from AS.
I just realized (unless I’ve missed something) this is the first album since the S/T to not have Will Swan vocals. @DGD explain yourself.
Deathstar>Happiness>DBM>Instant Gratification>Mothership>Acceptance Speech>Artificial Selection>DBM2 Mothership, Instant Grat, and maybe DBM are a bit interchangeable tho
They should close their next album with a 5 minute Will Swan solo and call it Swan Song. (I'm confident this joke has never been made before.)
This record has grown on me a lot. I really enjoy it now. Definitely not on the same level as Mothership but definitely not their worst record with Tillian.
