[Breakdown: Jon Mess] I see the glass half poured And then I pee inside the pitcher I wanna wet the bed 'Cause it reminds me I'm a swimmer And when I feel like Greg Then I remind me that I'm Jon I like to make a mess And then shit on every song [Chorus: Jon Mess] I'm smoking weed out of a pussy filled with money, I like this Don't act like you know me I'm smoking weed out of a pussy filled with money, I like this It's under control [Outro: Jon Mess] We're at the end of the mission, no need for decisions I jump off a cliff, I like this We're at the end of the mission, no need for decisions I fall in a ditch, I like this
When i listen to this I enjoy it, and I don’t wanna say it blends because each of the songs themselves are pretty dynamic, but for the most part it feels like they all do the same thing. Mothership was a lot more diverse and had way more memorable melodies. Mothership > AS1 > IG/AS2 I like that within the same discog we have DBM I and II and AS1 and AS2 lol
Thanks for posting. I think the line I was curious about was "I'm smoking weed out of a pussy filled with money". Not sure why I even bother trying to make sense of his lyrics but curious about this one
I will say the middle portion of the album might be my favorite. Flash, The Rattler, and Slouch are solid. The only songs that don’t really do anything for me so far are Story of my Bros, Hair Song, and Gospel Burnout
After a couple more listens, much as I still like this, it's definitely my least favourite from the Tilian era. I feel like they've plateaued with him. Who'd have thought this band's strength was its inability to keep a lineup together?
Of Tilian era 1. IG 2. Mothership = ArSe 3. AS Overall 1. IG 2. DBM II 3. Mothership 4. DBM 5. Self-Titled = ArSe 6. Happiness 7. Acceptance Speech
happiness self titled dbm acceptance speech instant gratification artificial selection mothership dbm2
anyone else notice how they recycled the same vocal melody from the start of Turn Off The Lights pt. II in Story of My Bros? I don't think it's a callback or anything they just happen to be almost the same
not exactly on topic but does anyone remember the band Piebald. Their song "King of the Road" has almost the exact same riff as "Care" on this album.
Don't know where I'd rank this overall yet, but Mothership > Acceptance Speech > Artificial Selection = Instant Gratification
Tilian era: Mothership > Acceptance Speech > Artificial Selection > Instant Gratification Overall: Happiness > Self-titled > Mothership > DBM > Acceptance Speech > Artificial Selection > Instant Gratification > DBMII
So somehow I didn't realize this til now... but apparently Kris Crummett and Erik Ron produced only one song each on here, ("Son of Robot" is Crummett; "Midnight Crusade" is Ron)... and the ENTIRE rest of the album is produced by Dryw Owens. So this is basically the second album after Acceptance Speech to mostly not be produced by Crummett. No wonder the production sounds different.
He's usually a pretty solid producer... he was the frontman of a super underrated band called Consider the Thief which also had DGD's original second guitarist Sean O'Sullivan as a member. He produced the last A Lot Like Birds album and a few other recent albums. Also, DGD's bassist corrected me on a post I just made... apparently I got confused and the credits I'm referring to are just the MIXING credits. Crummett, Ron, and Owens all shared production throughout the album, they produced different instruments.
