I still don't know the Tillian stuff well enough to have an opinion. They're all fine. There's some better than average songs and that one fucked up one that I hate. They're mostly fine.
I don't blame them for trying out a new producer after how DBM2 turned out. Matt Malpass did a great job and a lot of times Crummett's sound is so sterile and lifeless. DGD are good enough to largely avoid that problem but not always. Lesser bands he works with aren't so lucky.
yeah fyi Im not disparaging AS production job at all though I prefer the dude that normally does their stuff if only because its passable and I can hear whats happening woth the instruments
The production on Acceptance Speech, while less clear than the Crummet albums, has an atmosphere to it that those albums lack.
As an audiophille: Shut up, all the Tilian albums are pure gold sound quality-wise. DBM and Self-Titled sounded fine for their era and production value, Happiness was a bit undercompresed, and DBM II just sounds way too messy and raw for a band on their 4th album in 2011.
I think the new album has both Crummett and whoever produced 'Summertime Gladness' working on it, which will be cool as that song sounded fantastic. It all sounds good to me though; my brother is a recording engineer and uses all these words/phrases to describe things but I am just clueless when it comes to studio stuff (even though i legit studied it for 2 years lmao). If the guitars sound clear enough to hear each part and Will keeps using interesting effects 90% of me is already on board regardless of what the other 4 are doing
Seeing DGD for the first time since like 2007 tonight and I don’t even really remember the show too well. Basically a virgin. Stoked.
lol, I was just saying that as picky as I am, I'm still hard-pressed to find something to complain about with the Tilian albums
