Tilian straight dancing like he's in the club at the end of that during Jon's part is hilarious, haha.
Son of Robot is way better than the first single. Sounds like a straightforward progression from the songs I liked from Mothership, or maybe just in the same vein as those.
Artificial Selection Oxblood W/ Black Splatter : RSRC : Rise Records Stumbled upon this variant. Kinda wanna cancel my clear with aqua smoke.
he got on a different level with his performance on Mothership the soaring into semi screaming is awesome I expect hell do it on the new album too. just hope the songs are better than Mothership.
Relistened to AS and IG in full for the first time in a long today and I forgot how good AS is, despite it being my no.2 from them, and the vocal production bothered me less than I thought it would. IG was also more consistent than I recalled. Mothership remains their peak for now imo.
Relistening to a lot of stuff lately. Mothership probably has the best songs (Young Robot, Deception, Inspire the Liars, Philosopher's King are all top tier DGD), but it is about 2-3 songs too long, and it really loses steam towards the end. Also, I really like the vocal production on Mothership, but I wish the bass was more clear. Go listen to Mothership and go straight into We Own the Night and you can really tell that the bass has a lot more punch in that album's production.
AS remains the best of the tilian albums after spending more time with mothership but MS is better than IG
They’re honestly all about equal for me. Each of them have some of the best songs the band has written, a couple songs I could do without, and the rest is just solid DGD.
I think Instant Gratification is my favorite front to back, but the 4 I listed above from Mothership are probably in my top 10 favorite DGD songs. I just love Tilian's pop sensibilities.
I dont like most of AS but Strawberry 3, Honey Revenge, Doom and Gloom are top notch thats prob just how I actually feel about all of the Tilian albums. amazing songs here and there and then the rest arent.
I wish they did more than just 2 off AS for Tree City Sessions. EDIT: wow I'm dumb and just realized they did two songs from every album up until that point.
I was so so on Mothership until I saw the tour where they played it all. Made me like a couple songs way more. Inspire is so good live. And they switched Petting Zoo with Betrayed when I saw them so everyone that was expecting Betrayed got Petting and I thought it was so damn cool.
i kinda wish it was like that on the actual album tracklist too. would have made sense to go from the tilian song (exposed) to the jon song (petting zoo), i wouldn't have minded if tilian didn't even have a part in petting zoo. would be cool if they could each have their own song.
I remember the first time I listened to Mothership, and I wondered if Petting Zoo Justice would be an exclusively Jon song. Exposed had just finished, which was all Tilian, and Petting Zoo Justice goes on a while with Jon before Tilian comes in.
This is exactly how I feel about Mothership. I feel like I got flak back when it came out for saying that it falls off a cliff for the final 3-4 tracks, but I still feel that way pretty strongly. The stretch from Young Robot to Philosopher is as good as anything in their catalog, but a lot of times I don't listen past that. AS still the best of the Tilian era overall, though Philosopher might be the best song he's on thus far.
