Yeah this is great.

 

ok, that's two songs now that are better than 12/13ths of Mothership. rad

 

Not feeling these two songs so far at all. Not sure how to word it either. They just don’t feel as thought out as say the last two albums.

Coming from somebody who thinks Mothership is a top two release for them, I’m a bit let down. The songs don’t have the ebb and flow that I am usually pulled by with DGD. Will’s parts are technical, he’s shredding like always, but they’re not really the kind of stand out memorable leads he’s been writing the past couple of years. Matt’s drumming is very much unlike what he usually goes for, in that he’s able to rhythmically match Will’s parts without being repetitive. For these songs he feels a bit predictable? Something I’m not used to with him.

Lastly, and I promise I’m not trying to find more things to complain about (I’ve played both songs multiple times hoping they’ll grow), but doesn’t Tilian sound like he’s singing with a sore throat? His vocals became ever so slightly rougher on Mothership to a perfect point. Now he sounds too low and dry. I’m hoping the other 12 songs vibe better for me cause I was really thrown back into this band on the previous release cycle.

I wish I could bottle the feelings of pure joy I experience when I press play on a new song from these guys, my heart was racing listening this morning! Song is so good; exactly the opposite of what I was expecting from an opener but somehow still everything I wanted from them, can't pick a fav part.
Love talking about this band w/ you guys ITT too! (no-one else in my life save 1 or 2 people knows they exist lol)

 

Song is dope, pretty much what I expect from them at this point. I hope there's some curveballs, but if this album is just DGD doing what they do best, I'm down.

 

This is one band that never disappoints me, even when they don't "innovate further." I just think they're super consistent in a really good way. New track is great and I think this album will be fantastic.

 

Love both songs so far. Tilian DGD is my favourite.

 

Tilian has to be one of the better singers that has the rare combination of a great voice and an absolute knack for an earworm hook.

 

Not entirely sure how I feel about this one yet, tbh. I honestly feel like Tillian has damaged his voice.

 

The Tilian vocal change is definitely not a choice, it's an impact of the relentless touring

The song does feel a bit off and empty songwriting-wise, but it's DGD, it's good no matter what.

 

Have y'all ever listened to Tides of Man? Tilian sounding rough is definitely a choice.

 

See, I can remember after IG came out so many fans were saying how Tilian should sing in a more rough voice - he's just giving the fans what they asked for!

 

Give me gritty Tilian all day over processed Tilian from Acceptance Speech.

Whether I’m right or wrong about his voice being damaged, I don’t care for his vocal performance on these two songs compared to pretty much anything off the last 3 records.

 

Tilian's vocals on IG were the best. They had a gritty rock quality in the recording but he kept the bass in his voice in check and sounded really clean and in control

 

Liked the first song but this one feels a bit rough to me. Mothership is pretty much perfect imo though.

These two songs are different than a lot of things they’ve done before. I’m officially hyped af

 

honestly tillian's super polished and clean voice can get a bit relentless across entire albums.....i really like the little grit in his voice in these two new songs. it was off putting at first but im used to it now

 

add me to the "prefer gritty Tilian" club

 

idk his voice sounded fine to me last night

 

IMO his voice wasn't even that gritty on this song

His vocals should ideally be somewhere between the first verse of "Awkward" and "Frozen One" imo

His dual part with Jon on Frozen One was amazing ("Stop that, you ain't no friend of me, we don't believe your lies, go on and live your life, running out the back door")

 

if you think tilian's voice is damaged, then watch this

 

My brother is going to see them next week and I'm real jealous.
