The chorus and the second verse (that starts around 1:48) are beautiful imo. The guitars and vocal melodies across the whole song are so good, but particularly that bit in the middle stands out to me as one of my fav DGD parts of all time!
I’ll never understand why everyone hates the beginning of Here Comes the Winner... my only complaint with the song is the “you smell like sphincter” line
Didn’t realize not liking the beginning was a thing. Chorus is just ok but the second verse in particular is insanely good.
Here Comes The Winner is more of an experience than a song in the tradtional sense. It's more fun to just chill out and drive and let the song burn.
Its just the “here comes the winner” first chorus thing sucks bad, then that never repeats, and the rest of the song goes hard
“Do a bitta good analysis Let's balance this, not backing out Put a little bitta time in this A finalist and not in doubt I shake my scepter fresh And you smell like sphincter I'll pass my credit check And run through your sprinkles” It’s at the 1:40 mark
Oh definitely. I don’t expect this to top EF but I’m still stoked for Kurt returning to a more “progressive” post-hardcore sound.
The singles from the record haven’t really caught my attention yet. I’m hopefully but pretty pessimistic about it so far
For some reason the lyrics on Apple Music has the line as “and you smell like stage fright” instead lol
Anyone ITT willing to clue me in on why the message is shitty? All I can see reading the lyrics is Tilian singing about a break-up and Jon's part about his best friend making a move on his ex after they broke up?
i wouldn't say the message is shitty, other than the fact that they are talking a bit crudely about how guys prey upon women the moment they become single. it's more of a sad truth type of scenario.
Basically the idea that guys swoop in and “slip it in” solely due to a woman’s vulnerability post break up is kinda fucked as it takes away the ex gf’s agency — lots of people have rebound sex. It’s a choice people make. My biggest problem with the song is the line “don’t think it won’t happen to you.” How exactly is an ex having sex after you break up something that “happens to you”? Again, it takes away the ex gf’s agency and makes it sound as if Jon’s saying something was taken from him that was owed to him, which is completely fucked. Ruins the whole song for me.
idk how much stock to put in it this band is super self aware and meta... on top of the fact that they may have written the literal weirdest and most meaningless lyrics of any artist ever somewhere within all their work PV is a bit boring to me btw
Yeah this is better than I could word it, it implies a sort of entitlement post break-up, which is pretty bothersome.
Honey Revenge is a song that probably actually is problematic though its a super good track musically
Honey Revenge is a weird one 'cause I've brought it up numerous times over the years and nobody seems to give a shit.
Idk I feel like people are allowed to feel hurt by being neglected by someone they trusted. There's not always a reason for breakups, sometimes shit just gets fucked up. And you're allowed to be upset with other people, not because you disrespect their decisions, but just because you're confused by their decisions.
