I listened to Summertime Gladness the other day, I think I only played it once when it came out, but it is really good. Uneasy Hearts would probably top my list but I do not want to get into another song ranking thing
I respectfully disagree with this list but I also don’t know if I could even make a list with how large their discography is. With that said; I would absolutely place Pussy Vultures, Chocolate Jackalope, and Betrayed By The Game on said list.
I wanted to say something but I’m honestly getting so tired of being the one to remind ppl why what they’re saying is fucked up.
Oof, yeah, sorry, never thought about it that way before. I always kinda seperated DGD-era Jonny from Modern Jonny mentally, but yeah you're right, that sucks.
Hahahaha, yep. Sold my records and CDs he was on the day after his shit came out. Honestly, don’t miss them at all. Kurt and Tilian’s albums more than leave Jonny’s albums as unnecessary for enjoying this band.
Kurt and Tillian do fucking laps around Jonny in every aspect. Lyrically, vocally, stage presence wise, and just human being wise- they are superior in every way.
I don't know about Kurt outdoing Jonny in terms of actual vocal ability (though he's clearly more likeable and I think his voice portrays a much more sincere level of emotion), but I think Tillian is at least his equal in vocal ability and SLAYS him when it comes to melodies/hooks/lyrics.
Tillian gets major points just for longevity with this band, about to have double the amount of albums he's been on than the other two singers
Tilian is a better vocalist than Jonny from a technical perspective, but Jonny just has a nicer voice Kurt's main strong point is lyrics and relatability.
I may have made this comparison before but Jonny's voice is smooth as warm butter Kurt's voice is smooth like cream cheese Tilian's is smooth like whipped cream
Tillians kinda perplexing. Hes astronomically talented and very flawed at the same time. He has issues with tone and his head voice is strangely thin at times tbh. I am a fan though and I like his writing/melodies.
Jonny is a one-note pony. First time I heard him, I was impressed, sure- but if you heard one song you've heard it all. Makes me feel nothing at all. Kurt and Tillian on the other hand? Different story.
Yeah but that's more a remark on Jonny being a boring ass songwriter, not his actual technical ability as a singer.
Mothership/Happiness are the pinnacle of DGD to me. Excited to hear what risks they take on this new album. Have really enjoyed the last 2 singles they've released. Been a fan of Tilian's for a long time. Those first 2 Tides of Man albums are still classics to me.
Unless Jonny has something different to bring to the table and he has just not shown it yet (this is highly unlikely) then I am sure my opinion won't change. If I saw just a little variety in his vocals then I could understand but literally all of his songs sound the exact same. It feels like you can even tell when he is phoning it in too lol. I still enjoy some songs of his like "The Past Should Stay Dead", "Spooks", "Elder Goose", and "Heat Seeking Ghost of Sex"- but he just always seemed so overrated. Now with his long list of evil fuckery- it just cements that the dude sucks.
