Let's hold our breath until we disappear

Really do hope Matt is okay and that he and the band are able to work this out. DGD without Matt Mingus feels so strange to me.

It’s bad. It’s so bad it’s like intentional.

Jeez my show is on Saturday I really hope things are settled by then. as someone with my own substance abuse issues im sympathetic toward Matt if he really has a problem. If he doesn’t have a problem and just got too drunk to do his job for the fuck of it then that’s pretty shitty to the rest of the band and every fan who paid money to be there.

Rooting for a full recovery. This tour’s clearly been hard on the band. Each of them just doing the right thing to take care of themselves is going to be the best thing they can do to make sure they’re set up to grow from it instead of letting it take them down.

Also interesting that Andrew is included in the signature from the whole band. Wonder if they’ve finally decided to make it official.

AFAIK he is a permanent 'touring member' for now but turned down the offer of becoming an official member as he wants to prioritise Eidola. Can't remember where I heard that though so I may be making it up :crylaugh:

I think Tilian tweeted as much when asked by a fan

From Andrew himself. Was on Lead Singer Syndrome last month (Aug 25th episode). Talked a ton about his role in DGD.

That statement is about as good as it could get. Happy they’re supporting him and acknowledging he’s integral to the band as well.

Think the way Tilian responded onstage was petty and shitty. Seeing as how he also had to drop out of the tour at one point, who is he to embarrass Matt like that for having an addiction? If it weren’t for Matt, Will & Swan he would be in some mediocre post-hardcore band or trying to make his terrible solo shit work which would have no traction if it weren’t for the band these guys made and invited him into. I can’t stand this dude. Arrogant know-it-all who can take his libertarian bullshit you know he’s still preaching behind closed doors and fuck right off.

give me a break dawg, me myself as a recovering MASSIVE, and I mean MASSIVE fentanyl addict in recovery tilians response was completely understandable and mild compared to the way people have reacted to me being fucked up or realizing I had relapsed, and that’s not in the context of showing up to work fucked up and making my coworkers look bad the way Matt did (which I’ve also done but dipped out on jobs long before I could see anyones reaction to what I’d done so I’m sure people have done worse to me). It’s an emotional thing to suffer from and it’s an emotional thing to watch people suffer from, especially your family which is what a band basically is, but they’re also coworkers which adds a whole other layer to it. I’m sure tilian apologized the way my loved ones have after reacting based on their emotions first. And I won’t even touch the end of your post with a ten foot pole because that’s cynical unfair bullshit that tells me you’re just looking for a reason to shit on dude without really having a reason

Tilian acted in an unprofessional way, smashing that mic stand and calling Matt's playing "bullshit" was super unhelpful. But we all make mistakes, and I can't even imagine being put in that situation after a week of COVID-scares, playing with piecemeal lineups, and suddenly realizing you might have to cancel the show. We just need to have empathy for everyone involved and hope they're staying safe.

I saw a number of fans were unhappy with Tilian on Twitter etc.
His reaction was probably the stress/anger built up from the fact that there have been so many disruptions on this tour already - he was out a show or two due to COVID, Matt is out now, Jon was struggling vocally according to people in attendance (possibly due to having COVID recently too people are saying?), sets are having to be cut shorter as the drum tech does not know every song yet. The statements they released show how much it means to them to finally be putting on these shows and they want people to enjoy them at their best - to this point on the tour they have been far from their best and anyone would get frustrated in that situation.

  16. This is... a lot. You could've stopped at the first sentence, the rest is unnecessary and quite an overreaction to a complex situation none of us actually has any insight of. Applying this kind of black and white thinking by making Tilian out to be a vilain is unhelpful. Their statement is enough to make me believe they're handling it the best they can behind the scenes. Wouldn't it be healthier to trust their words on it and to have empathy for each one of them instead?

As for the "Tilian would be nothing without them" argument, it's ironic considering they were about to break up before he joined the band. Their evergrowing success since his arrival proves that they now need him as much as he needed them back then.

Yeah, in the heat of the moment, I can imagine it's hard not to be visibly upset, especially since he had just recently come back from COVID protocols.

I can't say I would have acted any differently in the heat of the moment. There's a lot of emotion behind these tours, ESPECIALLY after missing over a year due to a global pandemic. Acting like 1 person is at fault for any of these struggles is absolutely off-base and ignores the nuances of addiction.

unless you have been through this before, either in Matt’s shoes or in tilians shoes, you will never ever truly be able to grasp what it’s actually like to live with an addiction or love someone with an addiction and your opinion on the matter frankly doesn’t mean a god damn thing to any of us that have been there

I’m wishing Matt all the best ❤️ I couldn’t even imagine what he’s going through right now. I absolutely agree with everyone’s sentiments regarding Tilian’s reaction. It was a completely understandable response that was in the heat of the moment. Any one of us probably would have had the exact same reaction in that moment, especially adding in the stress the whole band has been going through to make this tour happen/continue. I think the statement the band put out proves that they 100% have a Matt’s back and all have a good relationship with each other. As someone that has loved ones that went through/still going through addiction, it’s not only tough for that person, but for your loved ones that want to help you and be there for you. I think the narrative needs to stray away from Tilian and just focus on wishing Matt the best ❤️

It's also naive to assume that Matt just showed up one night and was drunk. There's reports going back to the start of this tour of him showing to meet & greets not really doing well. There's a couple people on the DGD sub-Reddit that live in Sacramento that said as far back as February Matt was kicked out of the same bar several times for being rude and drunk.

So clearly this is an issue that has been building and yeah, it probably reached a boiling point with Tilian...AND....Jon, who was apparently pacing back and forth with his fists clenched before he pointed to Matt to get off the stage. Will even stopped playing and looked back at him all exasperated.

Bottom line is that they are handling there business and Matt is getting the help he needs so hopefully they can continue to make great music together for years to come.

I don’t need to look for the reasons, he presents them effortlessly starting a bit before covid. Your situation is not Matt’s situation, and embarrassing him in front of a live audience is a whole different level of asshole. Do you though.

LOL I MISSED THIS BEFORE MY FIRST RESPONSE. I’m sorry and do empathize for anyone dealing with addiction, but you come in hot and acting like my opinion of Tilian is coming from some place of ignorance and lack of understanding. You don’t know annnnnyyything about my life, my previous issues with addiction, or the fact that I helped nursed my own mother out of a coma from a brain aneurysm do to addiction. I didn’t need to share that with you, but since you wanna tell me I “can’t even grasp….” Trust me, I do. Go ahead keep batting for this dickhead who’s continued to show his ass to his fans over and over again.
