while listening to the Tilian albums this weekend I decided Artificial Selection was easily the best, then Acceptance Speech.

Instant Gratification was never my favorite, Mothership and Afterburner both feel weak too

Seems like I'm in the minority here

 

id say literally any and all of the tilian albums then go back

I started with S/T when I heard the Chino feature. Then listened to DBM, and have been a fan ever since. This was before the Tilian era tho. IG is definitely a good place to start I would say. S/T is now tied I think with Mothership as my fav DGD record. Afterburner comin up tho

 

Afterburner is just so fun. Feels like a way easier listen all the way through than the last two, and seems to have slightly more variation (heh) than IG. Would not be surprised if this becomes my favorite of the Tilian era.

 

I really have to revisit the Kurt Travis records...never really gave them a shot.

 

I have no idea what I would think of the Kurt records if I didn't love them before hearing Tilian. I still love them, and each time I listen to them I think, "I should listen more", especially Happiness. The grooves on that album still haven't been matched since.

Happiness will forever be my favorite, and No Place the best DGD-adjacent record.

 

Oo it's been a minute since I've listened to the Kurt ALLB albums. Need to do that soon.

 

The debut is awesome, more funky and jammy but No Place is just a dark carnival ride through a persons past familial trauma haha, it’s a hard listen but incredible.

 

The self titled is their best and I'm probably going to always think so.

Now that I've finally listened to Artificial Selection I think I might put it second.

After that are Happiness and Acceptance Speech.

I think I'd put Afterburner near the bottom, some of the stuff is growing on me though

 

A chunk of Afterburner feels like an evolutionary step forward similar to the way that a chunk of Happiness did.

I love the way they use Jon for melodic choruses on the stretch from Lyrics Lie to Strawberry’s Wake (minus track 3). That kind of thing needs to inform their style from now on bc it’s infinitely fun.

 

Even though thecKurt ALLB albums are much better than divisi, that album grew on me a lot over the years. And it also has a track that features Connor from Foxing which is neat... anyways I’m going to go listen to conversation piece.

i have a deep hatred for tillian's existence and will never forgive dgd for inviting him to be the vocalist and ruining one of my favourite bands.
