Just listened, and I'd describe it as a mix of the "mathyness" of DGD, the chaos of ETID, and the melody of Deftones.

100% on board.

Calculating infinity is insanely overrated tbh and nearly all the material with Greg is better

 

I’m not even that big of a TDEP fan, but Black Bubblegum is known to get stuck in my head every so often out of nowhere.

Yes very good. They meander a bit but it's still very good.

 

I didn't know where else to discuss this since its a DGD adjacent band, but Icarus the Owl's song Werewolf Tea Party (Who Invited Valerie Boonie?) is such an incredibly tight pop song

 

icarus the owl is very underrated! such a talented band!

 

Same goes for I Am The Delorean, though i think most of Rearm Circuits is even better. I am stupefied that that album didn’t bring them up and over the other swancore bands.

 

Got to relisten to Rearm Circuits again. Didn't catch my ear the 5+ times I listened over the last few years

 

geez I was just listening to the instrumental versions of the Til albums. there is so much going on that it gets lost sometimes with the vocals, especially when harmonies are going on. I can’t believe how much the riffs rip at times.

Instant Gratification ripped my face off. For most of the tracks it’s melodic chaos is extra focused for this band. Save for several tracks this punches as hard as any of the best DGD it’s banger after banger. It’s between this and Afterburner for my favorite new DGD I just need the instrumental for the latter now.

I love Mothership from minute to minute but it doesn’t have the tenacity of IG. If it really is a fan favorite then I think it’s really overrated. Kinda like dbm2 the songs get away from them a little bit with awkward transitions and stuff.

Acceptance Speech, eh. Turn of the Lights 2 rules and it’s cool to hear all the nuances on the instrumental.

There’s really not a whole lot of bad this band has done but Artificial Selection is just a massive letdown. Glad they bounced back.

ArSe is probably my favorite Tilian album these days, except maybe IG

 

The only problem with mothership is it never gave the other records a chance

I would say it’s a dead tie between Instant Gratification and Mothership for my favorite Tillian record.

IMO:

Instant Gratification/Mothership > Acceptance Speech > Afterburner > Artificial Selection

 

Afterburner and Mothership are now my two fav Tilian albums

Mothership > Afterburner/IG > ArtSec > AS for me.

 

Artificial Selection has some of their strongest songs on it and is my personal favourite, but I think Afterburner has the least duds of any of their albums (despite maybe not reaching the highs of ArtSec). If I had to introduce anyone to this band I would show them the Son Of Robot-Count Bassy stretch from ArtSec, that's the best section of their whole discography to me

 

I've only listened to Afterburner and a few random singles and I'm scared to go further hahaha. I really like Afterburner and this type of music is usually not up my alley.
