I kind of checked out during the TIlian Era, but this album is phenomenal. I need to give Mothership and Artificial Selection fair listens. Sucks that their first week sales are getting screwed by the physical delay, but they'll have no problem momentum-wise once they start touring again off this. Really want to hear Parallels live
I was just being funny, that's a line in Born to Fail. It'll grow on you. Nothing stood out a ton on my first listen but it started clicking really well at about 3-5 listens. I am a first half stan though, Calentamiento Global, One In a Million, Parody Catharsis and Strawberry's Wake are all favorites for me.
Ah, I’m an idiot. I’ve been waiting to actually sit with this and actually read the lyrics. Especially Calentamiento haha.
Dang did not realize how nutty the guitar is on Say Hi. Did someone mention the secret band guitarist was on here?
If it wasn't for Say Hi and Strawberry I would probably write off this entire record. My wife is a huge DGD fan and much bigger than I am. She tells me last night... they should have called it Backburner not Afterburner. And it should still be on the backburner. lol GD I love her.
I can't imagine thinking this is a low or mid tier DGD release, but I guess art is subjective. This is easily the best Jon Mess record.
Looks like this album charted at 27 with just under 17,000 album sales for the first week. That's pretty impressive considering no tour/no physical release and relying solely on streams and digital sales. Glad to see DGD fan base continue to grow. HITS Daily Double
Dance Gavin Dance: "The only thing that we have to concentrate on is keeping it fresh" Tilian interview
Yeah I don’t get the negative sentiments here at all. The ONLY thing I like better about ArSe is that it has a stronger closer. EDIT: here as in this album
spotify says they have a million monthly listeners and their most played song has 31 million plays I was a little surprised and happy by that
I believe the preorders count (I’m never sure). I know ArSe debuted at 15 with I think 25k or 28k the first week. I know DGD came out and said they anticipated the sales for this album to be higher (Pre COVID-19) but given COVID-19 and only the digital release I still think 17k first week is a huge week for them. I know preorders are delayed so I’m not sure how exactly those get counted.
That’s still about 150k cash, which definitely covers the costs of recording the record and paying Rise back. When they start touring after media campaigns everything else will be gravy
That assumes those are pure album sales, but don't individual song streams count for 1/5000th of an album sale?
Idk if that’s close to correct, but I usually say a general guess of $10 per album sale, considering merch packages, streaming numbers, etc.... it’s probably off though
