Just finished my first listen too, very good (as expected!). Got kinda worried in the middle as Born To Fail and Parallels didn't do much for me at all, but then Night Sway/Say Hi/Nothing Shameful are excellent and the last track is much more enjoyable than I anticipated. Can't pick clear favourites yet so that's a good sign!
did y’all start with ToM? I remember I saw them open for DGD back in like 09 or 10. I haven’t heard Dreamhouse in forever.
Well, no, I started with DBM, but ToM came onto my radar when they opened for DGD during the Happiness support tour. Probably the same tour you're talking about, seems like it was summer 09.
I can't find any record of the show I went to. It was at a tiny club in Birmingham AL and it seems like only 50 people were there. I really only remember ToM opening. It was before Empire Theory came out, and I remember picking up their demo. Wish I could find the tour flyer for that or something.
Would trade a lot of records to have another one by PMToday... Their new band is okay but just not the same.
Listening to this now and like every Tillian album so far I just get so bored half way through, it all sounds so similar and none of it is that exciting or fun. I really like parts here and there but mostly it just feels like more DGD and it just feels tiring after a while for me, they're always too long too. Hoping the second half will pick up a bit.
when your band is known for being zany and off the wall idk where you can go from there to escape that criticism. however, after spending time with it, I don’t feel that this album is “more of the same”. rather maybe it’s more of the sorta same but it’s better and also what more can you expect from them - they’re so adept they’re literally melting their instruments away.
I guess my main issue is the parts themselves don't feel that good to me, mainly vocally. There's a bunch of parts here I really like but rarely a full song. Idk, I like their sound I just want to like the songs more. I probably just need to give up on them as long as they have Tillian, most of his stuff just doesn't do it for me. Ah well.
I feel that way about “liking parts” on some Mothership songs. idk when I first heard this new album I wasn’t digging (you can see my initial comment after my first listen lol) but now I am after listening the last two days. I think there’s at least 5 tracks here that are real earworms that are put together perfectly really and show growth.
Feel like I'm the only one that loves Parallels. It's a Happiness song with Jon and Til instead of Will and Kurt.
Really, really enjoyed this. Always heard of this band but only heard a few songs here and there. May do a discography blast this weekend / next week.
