This album doesn't really sound like any of their previous albums to me. The singles do to some some degree but the other tracks are definitely a newer sound. I think Tilian took a big step back on this one though. Mess moments shine brighter to me. There's always some cheesy ass Tilian lyrics but some of these are yikes. But then again, I think those play a lot better to the general music listening audience so maybe that's what works for them now.
Honestly, who listens to this band for lyrics? I don't think I can recall a single lyric from this band other than funny ones, like the sugar daddy lyric from Death of a Strawberry.
TIlian's lyrics have never been anything special, Mess lyrics are the memorable ones, which is funny because they are gibberish most of the time.
Yeah normally I would just wait, but it's not like I had anything better to do. I'll take it on a spin when I do some cardio here in a little while.
took a couple listens but I’m really digging this! it’s definitely a less heavy, more funky and more experimental album from them, which took me by surprise, i was expecting more of a Mothership vibe with Tilian doing harsh vocals more often. however i’m pretty happy with this direction for them and glad they are trying something a little different! the highlight is definitely Jon, his style on this album is exactly what i was wanting from him and it really shines. lots of crazy scream melodies from him, and holy crap his emotional sounding parts in born to fail! can’t wait to hear this in 320 and really dissect that guitar work. so far this easily is better than artificial selection. i don’t think it quite tops mothership for me, but it’s really good and i can’t wait to spend some more time with this!
This is fantastic. Somehow less hook reliant, but the funkiest album they’ve had since Happiness. All the vocalists sound great, glad Andrew got a little more time to shine. The Spanish song seems crazy on paper but it really works. Pleasantly surprised.
The "rapping" in 'Parody Catharsis' is more of a fun little hook, not an intrusive presence in the song. The rapping in 'Into The Sunset' is about par for the course for DGD rapping. It's less cheesy than Eagles Vs. Crows, but not as good as his rapping on Chocolate Jackalope. But even there, it's just a brief little bridge bit. Although, Will does say the n-word, which always seems a little risky when rock bands (read: bands with majority white fanbases) do, but whatever.
This is what I wanted for the follow up to Mothership. This might be the best Tillan DGD record to date. With that said; I feel like Mess is so underutilized here. I mean he is in general with the Tillan era when you compare to all the records (minus Happiness) that came prior.
Have you liked it in the past? There’s nothing to worry about on Parody Catharsis. It’s featured a lot more prominently on Into the Sunset, and I’m not familiar with Bilmuri, so I’m not exactly sure when it’s him and when it’s Will, but I think it works if you’re cool with them stepping out of their comfort zone a little.
this album is going over better now. there’s 3 or 4 tracks I want to delete. probably replace them with Head Hunter, Blood Wolf, and Summertime Gladness then I’ll be having only good times.
The way Andrew Wells sings "I know I never really meant that much to you" in Nothing Shameful sounds so much like Dallas Green
There's no way this is right, but it's too funny not to share. Extremely rough Translation of Tilian's Spanish in Calentamiento Global: I love you my queen You are the only one i see Your hips heal the disease Your butt you try The way you move Strengthens global warming The way you move Strengthens global warming If I could bottle your rhythm And sell it like a nugget The world would celebrate madness, madness If everyone saw each other in you The dissonance would melt in harmony Also the song slaps and has absolutely no business being as awesome as it is, and it proves that I literally care zero percent about what Tilian is saying as long as the melody is good.
