I get where you're coming from. I'd say it's more cultural appreciation than appropriation. When things are done with love and respect, I have no problem with a white person teaching someone how to make food from outside their culture. That's part of the beauty of food. You can combine different elements from different regions and cuisines to make something new, unexpected, and beautiful. I know some people hate Rick Bayless for being white and focusing his life on Mexican food, but it's clearly done out of love and respect. He's not doing this to fit in, be trendy, or to better himself. He loves it. He lives for it. What greater show of respect for something is there than that? To avoid it? IDK. This whole thing is confusing. I tend to think everyone should cook/eat everything and enjoy everything. No boundaries. No reservations. Let's just all enjoy.

I'm sure some people will look down on me for thinking this way, but that's how I feel. Culture is always changing. Look at al pastor tacos, which are Mexican, but they wouldn't exist now without Lebanese immigrants moving to Mexico. There's a million examples of things like this happening throughout history. That's why I say we should all cook and eat everything we want to. It's important to be respectful, but food is ultimately about love. I don't think there's anything wrong with sharing that.
