i deleted my LinkedIn once i got in with the state, i’ll prob spend the rest of my life in civil service so it’s pointless to have

I also deff didn’t know anything about the gender spectrum back then so was looking through it from a very narrow lens of “do I like penis or vagina?”

When I think festival I think of warped tour, or Coachella or some sprawling outdoor thing with nowhere to sit or escape. Fest is very much not like that. But I’ll reach out to my friends that have gone and get a better idea

That's about how I am with it. I added my resume and descriptions for all my work history and have a fairly neutral pic of me up.

But career books and articles about getting hired all say to have a good online presence for potential employers to see

I hate "networking" though

 

Yeah I mean like bars have stools and chairs I guess I didn't really consider that. I thought you meant like a fully seated venue. A lot of seats at the comedy showcase I'd hope

"Networking" was the word every prof in my business school would jack off to in every class.

Like fuck off I'm 28 and working full time and putting myself through college, not 20 with mom and dad paying for everything I can't just join the Marketing Association whose meetings are when I am working or whatever to "network." I don't have time for every club and mixer.

It just pisses me off that they're not exactly wrong, it's just unfair and goes back to people with connections/opportunities getting put at the head of the line in life.

I'm constantly looking for whatever connections I can leverage to get into the music industry but all the work I've done over the years has been for free so I have literally no resume experience to speak of.

Not sure what you want to do or what opportunities there are in TX but when you get back into school I do suggest at the very least making friends with your professors because they're gonna advocate for you and if you can articulate what you want before you graduate they may even be able to help you get there.

Networking with a bunch of wall street bros (my college) sounds awful though

 

basically pay the bills for the state’s education department offices. all the phone, internet, utilities, and other incidentals like catering for parties and stuff come to me and i enter them to be paid. nothing i’m passionate about but i come in to a stack of work and when it’s done, it’s done. sometimes it takes all day but usually i get 2-4 hours to shit post and read and it’s great for my mental health lol. hope to move up next year when my probation period is up

 

There's also the route I tried my best to take which is to be good enough at whatever to be the person everyone else wants to network with so you don't have to do any of the actual networking

That would require you having leverage in something, a job or position and if you do that's great. Doesn't really work for somebody without it though.

 

Yeah talking about my work has never been easy or interesting for me and I've always felt like in a work function I have nothing in common with anybody. My only connections are people I've worked with directly, I don't like talking to people in that capacity

 

That's true, although I was jobless at the time. People just knew my general work ethic and knowledge and it made them feel more secure in recommending me for jobs which resulted in this career.

Yeah that’s what I meant is the venues have at least a little bit of seating typically and if that one doesn’t then you move on to the next one which does. Also there’s lots of common areas to relax and rest and because it’s not confined to one space you can branch out and spend some time taking it easy and eating and that kind of thing
