I think it depends on the area of influence. Food influencers aren't going to make nearly as much as fashion, makeup, and travel influencers who are typically already wealthy and sometimes famous.

Haha yess! First of all STOP THAT no one’s destined for mediocrity. You might SETTLE for mediocrity and there ain’t nothing wrong with that, but don’t sell yourself short like that.
Like you said, the selling products comes from being a respected chef. And the selling aspect is just capitalizing off of what you’re already good at to ensure you can live comfortably off your skills!
However I think opening a restaurant is a great idea/goal and you should definitely do it

 

I would agree with that, but you could also dip into all of those areas no problem.

Naw I don’t take offense to it unless it’s coming from a place that I feel is rooted in misogyny/jealousy like I said. I just think that’s such a tired stance and that’s why I’m defensive of it haha (the misogynistic stance not yours)

But I wanted you to elaborate to get more of an idea of where you were coming from.

I deff understand this, I guess I just see it like @Fucking Dustin said of blaming the wrong party
IMO marketing was already being shoved down our throats at every point, the way I see it is influencers are taking control of it and deciding to capitalize off of it themselves instead of being a passive member to it.

I guess I just see it as entrepreneurialism which I support.
I also guess my perspective comes from yeah hating capitalism but knowing that’s it’s a system that fucks everyone so I’m here for people who can exploit it. (In an ethical way of course haha)

Like in a society that makes it really hard to earn money in a traditional way anymore (ie Ian mentioning retailers making minimum wage), I gotta say I’m a vocal supporter of people out here doing whatever they can to take back the control and bring in money in their own way.

I also asked you about the culture specifically bc I think when different people from different walks of life all talk “influencers” we all have probably extremely diverse ideas in our head of what that actually means haha

Yeah that’s definitely a fair and true point! My counterpoint would be that it actually makes it easier to avoid because you can just choose to not follow any influencers and avoid being sold to (generally speaking ha)
