Loved the book but every review I’ve read has said ‘why is this 10 hours long?’ I’ll sub to this thread and see what you all think before committing and investing my time, haha.
I haven’t been bothered by the pacing at all so far. If we’re going to make everything into TV instead of movies, I’m ok with them taking their time to tell stories I love. If anything, it felt like they dwelled less on stuff like Billy’s infidelity than the book did, and I’m fine with that!
Never read the book. This is pretty good. Every time in the first few episodes where somebody sings A song and Daisy is like " I can make it better" I actually enjoyed the first version more lol. Not saying she is bad or anything, but they use the better version of a song as the "not as good" version like twice.
It gets good after the fourth episode, I would say. Struggles to find its footing until then, but after it’s pretty great. I’ve had the songs stuck in my head the last few days. Only have the finale left.
There's one episode that I think is pretty bad (the Greece episode, if you haven't seen it; just a big energy drop that I feel like is way less of a roadblock in the book), but I loved this series otherwise. The finale is wonderful, with some big gut punches in the last few minutes.
Oh I actually liked the Greece episode because we see Simone’s story which I thought was cool, but they should’ve threaded that out throughout the season so it wouldn’t have felt as disconnected.
I understood why they wanted to expand her character from the book and tell that particular story, but so much of it felt tacked on to me.
Ending was a little rushed. The show as a whole was best when it didn’t speed through years in one episode. Overall I would say I enjoyed this though.
It definitely took awhile for me to warm up to Billy Riley is so good at playing loveable fuck ups/ sociopaths
Billy isn’t likeable, but the dude’s a decent actor and plays the character’s emotions well. I feel for him, especially when he’s honestly managing his sobriety without any support.
Just watched this, definitely felt way overlong but damn that finale brought everything together and was the best episode of the series. Overall enjoyed the show but I think cutting the fat would have helped in the end. Some killer songs though
