I think curmudgeon is better, but grouch is an acceptable substitute. My old bosses used to call me frumpy and granpda if that tells you anything.
How do you feel about people who leak albums and the people who support the leakers by downloading their leaks?
I download leak albums all the time. There has to be a balance, right? I enjoy the benefit of "try it before you buy it" that leaks provide people. When leaks were first a thing, I felt disappointed that the roll out of albums were essentially ruined. It was like someone opening your Christmas gifts and giving them to you on December 15 and not on Christmas. But, I believe leaks are now an accepted part of releasing an album. I believe that if you download a leak and you enjoy the album, the least you can do is delete the local files and listen to the album via streaming services so at least some revenue can be collected (the debate on streaming revenue is another conversation, but at least you are listening in good faith). Ideally, you'd buy the album physically on CD or vinyl, and go to the show in your area if possible on their album release tour. If you don't like the album, there's no sense in keeping it, so again, delete the local files and if you ever have the urge to listen to it again or give it another shot you stream it or buy it.
@Ken additionally, some artists are locked into contracts on shitty labels and will leak their own album as a fuck you to their label. See the history of Streetlight Manifesto and Victory Records and their roll out drama for their dual album The Hand that Thieves/The Hands that Thieve.
@dylan Would you judge someone for wanting to wait until a proper release date and grill them for not wanting to listen to a leak?
No, I believe the consumption of media, within acceptable and healthy parameters, is up to the consumer. So long as you're supporting problematic, abusive, exploitative, or otherwise shitty musicians, actors, directors, or other artists, you do you.
god damnit no god damnit god damnit no. i just like to sit on benches in the park, be left alone, and hate the youths.
