I know nothing will feel any different because they've already been inactive for so long anyway but this is making me weirdly really sad. I guess in the back of my mind I just always thought every year might be the year we finally get a new Daft Punk album, which could be the reason they did this, to stop that expectation. Absolute legends in every sense
Decided to start a full chronological listen-through of their discography, it's been years since I've heard some of it. Listening to Homework right now
Finished my discography run like a week ago and realized that Discovery and RAM are probably two of my favorite albums of all time, and I can't even decide which I like more between those, they're really neck and neck I also STRONGLY recommend watching this if you have an hour and a half to kill, the best footage of Alive 2007 I've ever seen
Holy shit I had no idea Guy-Manuel and Thomas were in a band pre-Daft Punk that's basically indie rock/punk rock
With Laurent Brancowitz of Phoenix, Rolling Stone's feature on them from a few years ago is required reading.
This is such a tragic story. I really hope some justice can be done by Eddie Johns. A homeless L.A. musician helped create a Daft Punk classic. So why hasn't he seen a dime?
Pitchfork rescored Discovery rating it a 10 instead of a 6.8 they originally scored it. They also rescored Random Access Memories from an 8.8 to a 6.8. Discovery: Random Access Memories:
Daft Punk has nuked their Instagram, and put up a new post of their Homework-era logo. They've also made a Twitch channel. https://twitch.tv/daftpunk
My optimistic take: Remasters / reissues of their albums, with maybe a live stream of an HD Interstella 5555 or something. My pessimistic take: NFTs.
