idk if this is how everybody experiences this band, but it always takes me a little while for their music to sink in and this record is no different. I liked it immediately but I think it's very....overwhelming? Like I needed to take a step back from it for a while and now ~two months later I'm like starting to parse out the moments that really make it one of the best records of the year for me. idk it's like things are clicking that in hindsight seem like I should have been head over heels with right away.

idk if I really said anything there. but "Dancing Days" is genuinely competing with "End of Reel" and "Somebody Else" for my favorite song of the year so there's that. there's this moment ~2 minutes in where he starts like whisper-singing that absolutely crushes me

This is pretty accurate for me as well. When I first tried to get into them (in preparation for their show with Brand New and Foxing) it didn't really have much of an impact at all. I bought LOSE on cassette and kept it in my car's tape deck for a day or so, and I kinda felt like it was just there, like the sounds were pleasant but it didn't really strike me as anything spectacular. Fast forward like 6 months and for whatever reason I decided to pop the tape back into my tape deck and I was pretty blown away right off the bat. It was like I was listening to a completely different album honestly. Weird how stuff like that works sometimes.

Got around to LOSE for the first time today, and it's a fuckin weird little album huh? I think I like it though, gonna need more time with it for sure
