The last-gen versions were embarrassing even when playing on current gen hardware. This was the right move by Sony 100%. The game is unfinished on any platform other than PC. Granted, Sony never should’ve certified the game for release in that state in the first place, but better late than never I guess.
It really feels like there was a disconnect between management and the dev team. Like that Jason Schreier tweet I posted said, how many people brought it up and were rebuffed by the brass?
CDPR’s management believed that everyone was so blinded by hype that they’d swallow whatever was put out and just be grateful the game was finally out at all. And the wildest part is they were right, to a degree! Can’t even count how many people I’ve seen publicly trying to convince themselves the game isn’t utterly broken on last-gen over the past eight days lol
It’s really a shame because the game itself is great but playing a broken version because you have to is shitty no matter what. Like I enjoyed what I’ve played but I def got the shit end of the stick
Honestly fuck this company utterly from their crunch shit and transphobic marketing of the game up to all of this post launch shit. Way to completely throw away all the goodwill built up over the years of being one of the "good" ones who "fights for the good of the consumer" or whatever shit they paraded around. I feel for the actual grunt work developers just trying to make a workable, playable game and the higher ups/corporate and marketing just completely fucking them over. AAA Gaming at its finest.
The fact that they tried to hide this by not giving console review codes and showing actual videos from those systems says all you need to know. They knew, ignored it, released it to quickly make a profit.
I’m not going to give CDPR a pass on shipping an obviously incomplete product, but I am going to be mindful of the fact that devs were receiving death threats because the game didn’t ship in November and had to be pushed again. And now some of those threatening folks are likely ones that are unhappy with it.
I definitely feel bad for the main developers/artists who had to crunch, and not see their loved ones as much through all of this. Though Sony realllly flexed hard, and I’m proud of them.
I've stopped playing on PS5 until they patch the crashing. I'm having fun with the game but I'd rather play AC Valhalla until this is fixed.
An easy way to avoid all of this would have been to not announce a release date until the game was certain to be finished. The management at CDPR is entirely incompetent. They were always solely concerned with pushing the game out regardless of how ready it was. Everything about this situation is entirely the fault of CDPR management. Placing any shred of blame on anyone else absolves these people of their abusive work practices and disregard for the quality of their product.
Preface my post with fuck CDPR, management and this game, probably won't get it at this point. But the game was announced in 2012. And while I don't know what happened behind the scenes, at some point I think you have to look at the devs and ask why the fuck it took 8 years to make a game.
Have you read Jason Schrier’s article regarding Anthem? It can come from a complete disconnect between different developing groups, from concept to working games. Based on from what people have hinted, proper development for this game only started a year, two years out from release, all under “crunch” conditions. This comes down to management, not the devs, especially since they seemed to have been promising features with no roadmap to actually have them completed. They’re making a pittance compared to the senior leadership.
They def wanted to get this out by the holidays no matter what, along with wanting it to be the last big game of the previous generation and it bit them in the ass.
submitted my refund this morning. not hating on the game itself but it wasn't ready. I'll still pick it up next year with the proper ps5 version if they can sort it out
tbh the silver lining in all this could be that the shareholders revolt and force CDPR to clean house at the management level. Every single person in a top-level management position at that company should be fired. If this is what it takes for that to happen, I say good.
