its not really the politics of the 80s. Its more just, the politics of 2020 edgelord culture. They know whose buying their games and knows that picking the right politics helps them sell more games
The marketing has almost nothing to do with why CDPR has such devoted fans. It's all because people worship them for making The Witcher 3. That's the only reason. They crafted a reputation of being "for the gamers" simply by making a long RPG that people loved and that didn't have any microtransactions in it. It's really no deeper than that. You could take the edgelord Cyberpunk 2077 marketing entirely out of the equation and they'd still have the same rabid fanbase and the game would still sell just as well. They're like Rockstar, they're one of the "untouchables" in game development.
I dunno, they have one great game under their belt with TW3 and the rest isn’t on par imo. Rockstar got to that level after years of pumping out quality stuff. They definitely are riding on the TW3 love and we’ll see how that lasts after it comes out.
I only said they've reached the same level of fan devotion as Rockstar (they have), I didn't say they worked as hard to get there. It truly was off the back of just that one game. Also both studios are notorious for their grueling crunch practices, which is another similarity they share.
Most of the people I know who are looking forward to this also love TW3. If this wasn’t made by CDPR then I don’t think the hype would be as large.
I recently noticed WB Games on the box, which honestly explains the game's giant marketing budget along with the keanu reeves connection. I could never picture CDPR all on its own simply after making Witcher 3 having the resources to go so big this time, but having an in with Hollywood (And AT&T on top of that) seems to be a factor
CDPR does have resources, they do own GOG and Witcher 3 sold fairly well. As far promotion goes, having a company like WB or AT&T definitely has helped them get the word out.
Steamers will help as well. All of the big streamers I watch have been keeping up with the game and will be streaming it. That’s why I’m just going to wait, get it when I’m done building my pc and watch streamers go through it until then.
I mean, CDPR had a lot of success with Witcher 2, and it's later enhanced edition release. They've rightfully earned a lot of confidence for keeping their content pure while garnering success. It seems that, based off most of the reviews that Cyberpunk keeps that success going. I'll be interested to see if the day zero patch has any effect on some of the bugs we are hearing about thus far, though I imagine that will take some time to fizzle out.
I was planning on waiting for the fully next-gen version but now I see that might not even come out in 2021? I'll just get the PS4 one then lol
I've been hyped for this for years, mostly because I'm a sucker for the cyberpunk future theme, and RPGs/heavy story games are about all I play. Total Recall, Blade Runner(s), Akira, etc are all some of my favorite movies of all time too. The fact it's made by CDPR tho makes it more enticing for sure but not a deal-breaker for me. I can't wait to fire this up on Ps5 Thursday. It's a shame the Ps5 version isn't out right away, but from what I've seen it still looks incredible. Also no/very little load times will be nice.
You get the next gen update for free but I wanted to just wait because I don't tend to replay games like this very much. If the wait is going to be that long it's not worth it though How are next gen updates going to work if you buy games on disc btw? You'll use a PS4 disc but updates will make it the PS5 version?
R.I.P to all the people who died waiting for this game to come out. I was 23 y/o when this was announced now I’m 31. Imagine all the people who will never get the chance to experience what we’re all going to experience some hours
Yeah, I definitely won't replay it. I just finished AC: Valhalla and clocked in around 64 hours. Won't be doing that twice.
I'd imagine it would be like the other disc updates where you can just update it on the product page.
From what I read this will have a Performance mode or something of the sort from the get-go to play at 60fps on PS5/PS4 pro. I can't imagine how much more they'll put into it on the next-gen system anyway, other than maybe implementing the dualsense controller more? Idk. If you're really on the fence with this I'd wait til all the bugs are worked out and a sale goes on.
You could cut half of Valhalla and it would have the same impact. Honestly, it's a great game and I loved the England story, and the way it ties into Isu lore, but man, pledging to every, single, region, plus, two, more, on, the, map, was just insane.
