Curtis Lee Mayfield (June 3, 1942 – December 26, 1999) was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer, and one of the most influential musicians behind soul and politically conscious African-American music.[1][2] He first achieved success and recognition with The Impressions during the civil rights movement of the late 1950s and 1960s, and later worked as a solo artist.

First ever listen to We're a Winner and it's very good from top to bottom, but shit the title track is absolutely spectacular. Nobody was as warm as Curtis was.

Superfly is one of my favourite discoveries of the past couple of years. A truly superb album.

His first 3 or 4 albums after leaving The Impressions are near untouchable. I'd put them up there with Stevies classic period.

I mention The Impressions in the last post, but i'm ashamed to say that i've only just listened to them in the past couple of days. They are, of course, bloody great.

I've only heard two Impressions albums, which isn't even close to enough.

I listened to the last three CM was on before he left, all very good. You can tell he was finding the sound he wanted on the last two especially.
