Spun Happy Hollow last night and it's as good as TUO or Domestica. I love the horns, very dark and shrill and they add a unique dynamic to the band, much like Gretas strings.

Pumping up 'Storms of Early Summer...' since no one else has done that yet

With you there. I thoroughly enjoy Domestica, but it's never the first album I'm choosing when listening to Cursive. Normally it's Happy Hollow, The Ugly Organ, Burst & Bloom, Mama, Storms

Album is absolutely amazing. Came to this thread to do the same. Favorite track?

Probably The Rhyme Scheme or Tempest. The whole thing flows so well though it's hard to single out one specific moment.

That's true. I'm town between "A Little Song and Dance" and "Semantics of Sermon" actually... "The Road to Financial Stability" too. The whole thing is just outstanding.

God damn The Ugly Organ is a fantastic piece of indie rock. It's so dark and brutally honest and the way Cursive were unafraid to play around with tempo and structure was so fascinating and exciting.

It's tied for my favorite Cursive record with Happy Hollow. That was one of my favorite albums to be released in 2006. The way they incorporated horns into that concept blew my mind. Incredible.

ugly organ just brings in floods of nostalgia for me. still remember it was one of the first cds i got after i had learned to drive and could blast records in my car while i cruised around town... it'll always be held as something very very dear to me

Now that Tim's done The Good Life for a year, it's Cursive time. My favorite time.

Is that what he does? Alternates each band annually? If so, bring on the Cursive hype train!

Well he does have his indie film coming out with a soundtrack. But Cursive recently played their first show since the Ugly Organ tour. I imagine he will be working on a new Cursive record this year.

I kind of feel like Cursive is what Desaparecidos really wants to be. Which isn't a slam on Desa, I love Desa. I'm only making that comparison because if I think about one Saddle Creek band, I'm gonna think about all of them. Also this is solely based on the Ugly Organ btw I have yet to listen to anything else but Domestica is next once I stop feeling like shit and I can take loud music again

This is actually pretty interesting because I've been a big Desa fan for a while, with Read Music/Speak Spanish being one of my all time favourite albums, but I'd only heard a little bit of Cursive until I really jumped in last year. Then when I first checked out Domestica in full I realised "oh, so that's where Conor got that sound from". There's a few screams on Domestica that you'd be easily forgiven for thinking it was Conor and not Tim, they sound that alike. But I just boil down the similarity to Tim and Conor being buds and influenced by eachother's work.

Also, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Such Blinding Stars For Starving Eyes, that's my personal favourite of theirs. After The Movies is one of the most heartbreaking songs I've ever heard.

Yeah, they have similar sounding shouts, there are times where Tim Kashers voice gets a little warbly like Conor's that made me think of that comparison. I think you're spot on with them just rubbing elbows enough to be influenced by each other, I figure Conor got tired of being criticized for sincerity and tried to take a page from Tim's book for Desa. I think Conor is incapable of not being sincere though lol. Even the more sarcastic lyrics, unless they are completely external to him and his experience, scream wounded to me.

@Zac Djamoos figured a change of scenery was in order.

Yeah Tim Kasher is a great lyricist/vocalist and I just love what this band does so much.
