All the albums are great, the only one I’d maybe grade a bit lower is I Am Gemini, which is still consistent but just not as many highs as the other ones.
Doing a run through their discog and I'm convinced Domestica is their best album. Such a strong record.
I also found a renewed love for a lot of (lesser known?) songs. Dispenser, Nostalgia, Excerpts, Am I Not Yours?, Icebreakers, ... Burst and Bloom just kicks in so hard. I love old Cursive just as much as today's Cursive.
Agree, Burst and Bloom takes the best parts of Domestica and Ugly Organ. Fairytales Tell Tales might actually be my favourite Cursive song.
i recently found a used CD copy of 8 Teeth to Eat You. I've only been familiar with the Cursive material so it was my first time hearing the whole split album AND my first time hearing the other band on the release, Eastern Youth. Goddamn awesome band and it's long overdue I heard 'em but so glad it finally happened.
I also have it on cd. Don't recall much from Eastern Youth except the first song on that split. I think I like this version of Cursive the most. The more aggressive sound than The Ugly Organ.
First time listening to I Am Gemini in a while. It has aged rather well I must say. I could do without the interludes and The Cat and Mouse.
The "here, kitty kitty" part sticks out in my mind like a sore thumb. Don't remember much else about that record
Went back and did the Burst and Bloom EP after yall talking it up and yeah that was a cool step back into TUO sound after HH and Mama. Absolutely loved Mothership Mothership especially. I'm gonna move on to I Am Gemini next.
I Am Gemini is in my top 3 for Cursive. It leans heavy on the story concept (a feature, not a bug) but the instrumentals are some of my favorites the band has ever put out.
I’m only a few listens in, but I’m pretty comfortable saying, at the moment, that this is their best since the ugly organ. It really feels like it could’ve come out right after that album, feels like classic cursive. I liked vitriola a lot too but this is even better
Completely agree, this is battling it out with Happy Hollow as my second favourite Cursive record. Late career smash.
I love to hear this. Shout out to Vitriola, because sonically that is one of my favorite Cursive albums and I think it's severely underrated. Can't wait for Friday the 13th!
And to think Tim almost cut it from the album but the rest of the band told him to keep it! When it’s the ripping cello and the fast strumming guitar - total chef’s kiss moments.
