Larry himself is just very....loud. Like lots of shouting and yelling, which I really noticed because I've been marathoning the old seasons because a lot of them I never really watched. Definitely a lot more yelling haha.
One of the biggest differences is that in the early seasons Larry was usually either innocent or misunderstood and the over-the-top responses of other people is what the show was mocking and criticizing, while over time Larry's behavior has been the outlandish part. It is interesting you bring up late Seinfeld because the thing that made that show drop off so dramatically was David's absence the last two seasons.
the show ending with Larry going to jail for doing something good/the right thing inadvertently seems pretty perfect tbh
Finally started the season and agree that the first episode wasn't great but the second was an improvement. I hope the trial/Maria Sofia stuff doesn't take up too much time in the final season though Really happy to see Richard Lewis in the preview for next week
Still think the first ep was pretty bad even on a second viewing with friends, the 2nd episode had me dying, much better build up and payoff classic curb feel
my terminally online politics brain clocked the resemblance immediately. was very happy to see it acknowledged by Larry lol
lmao despite how political the first two episodes had been, I completely did not connect JEff and the statue dripping with Rudy until Larry said it. Definitely got a big guffaw out of me.
Yeah somehow my mom saw that coming and I forgot that even happened with Rudy so it hit me outta nowhere, esp the way he delivered the line, “Guiliani.. that asshole !” with excitement
As soon as they were putting shoe polish on the jockey I knew we were getting a Guliani joke. Just wish it had involved him marrying and making love to his cousin.
never watched curb. tried watching the first episode of the newest season and had to turn it off when Larry was flipping out in the car. shit was mad annoying
Early seasons are more Larry reacting to the insaneness and stupidity of the people around him, and being really monotone and calmly "what the fuck?" about it all, versus now, where he's just outwardly a cynical and sarcastic asshole who just shouts and blatently and obviously calls out the stupidity of people in a loud and "angry old man" kinda way. Think the season 1 episode with the wire and Dean. Larry just being pissed off at the whole situation with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, just a pissed off Larry without the yelling and franticness. Versus now where everything's just chaotic. That being said, the new episode was fucking great. The golf ball, Leon's balls, the "free golf lessons" and Larry trying to pat the puppy. All gold.
