Did some damage at the Barnes and Noble sale. not pictured: A Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Come and See.
Added M and Brazil to my collection today My budget as of right now allows for 4 more before the sale is over. I’m open to any and all suggestions. Blind buys, classics I’ve seen, really in just trying to be convinced because it’s impossible to make a decision.
Yea. Amazing film. not from the film but I actually learned for the first time yesterday that the Soviet Union lost 24 million people during WWII. Absolutely insane. The United States lost 500k. Every life lost is tragic but I would have never known or come close to guessing the magnitude of the loss on the Soviet side (I think in part because of the way we teach history in this country).
It is. I should have mentioned that my copy of Wild Strawberries and The Tree of Life were holdovers from the last flash sale. Barnes and Noble actually sold me that Bergman set for $99 because it had a couple knicks on it. Nothing major. A corner ding and some small scrapes. Pound for pound the best purchase I’ve ever made I think.
I mean if there is anything you ever need/want and are willing to cover shipping/cost I would happily be the middle man. edit: I know some of it might be a region issue but I thought all of their dvds were region free.
Just did a cursory scroll through and those seem to be the only two. Kinda surprised they haven't done Armageddon.
This might be the best thing they've ever programmed on the channel. Fainting Spells is one of the best shorts I've ever seen. Got to see Hopinka present a program of his works as one of the last things I did before everything shut down. His play with text on image is really cool. His first feature isn't a part of this but it premiered this year and it is one of the year's best (I can help with accessing it if anyone is genuinely interested). Important and exciting stuff!
Watched The Vanishing last night and wow...might be picking that one up during this B&N sale for round 2. Round 1 was nice, I had pretty much stopped buying vinyl the last 3/4 months to give myself a decent budget. picked up:
The New Korean Cinema collection on the channel is so great so far. Had seen 3 or the 12 of them before but working my way through the ones I haven't seen and they've all been exceptionally fun. Joint Security Area has probably been my favourite so far, and The Foul King was really funny, but I'm most looking forward to Save the Green Planet! Word of warning that the version of Nowhere to Hide is both cut (by some 12 minutes) and cropped (from 1.85 to 1.33).
I was long overdue to watch it. I’ve loved most of Park’s work for the better part of a decade now but I still hadn’t seen this or Lady Vengeance.
