I hate when people say things like this but I genuinely didn't realize BVB were still around, I thought their frontman went solo or something? I wouldn't go to this just to see them open (it's not coming near me anyway) but I want to see them headline sooo bad
There was a rumour they were going to break up a few years ago, not helped by them releasing an album called Vale (goodbye in Latin) and Andy Black - god I hate that name - releasing his first solo album. But apparently they're still together and kicking.
I’ve been to a few of BVB shows the past couple years with my 15 year old daughter, and I don’t get the hate? They put on a pretty great show and I like a few of their albums pretty well, especially the newer stuff. They also seem pretty inclusive, flying trans flags on stage and stuff, which seems like something that would get the band a lot of points around these parts.
Having been on board since the early EP’s, I felt lukewarm on this at release. Gone back to it now that the UK nights last for like 14 hours and I find myself wanting something a bit darker and expansive for my walks. Good god, I was SO wrong. This slaps front to back. Will is on incredible form lyrically, with some good fun one-liners that really fit the over-the-top music (“I’m Jesus in a strip club giving head”/“She’s getting laid but not to rest”).
Once Halloween passed I haven't listened to the whole thing AS much, but it pretty much doesn't have a dud on it. My least favorites are Ballad of Spook and Mercy and Chapel Gates, and even those I like decently enough. Chapel Gates will get more spins from me than Ballad does. Every other song on the album ranges from good to great/top tier for me. I am still of the opinion that we got the best 3 songs as singles, but More Than Death is right there with them. Lovers Led Astray and Sacred Blasphemy are good, Further Than Forever is great but also kind of a chore like songs that length can be, so I don't listen to it as much haha.
Sacred Blasphemy, Lovers Led Astray, Further Than Forever, More Than Death, and Teenage Sacrifice are my top 5 here. Really enjoy this record
Lol....don't get me wrong, I like them. I love the getting laid line like Sam said, but the kind of loud shouty punk song with the somewhat strange vocal sounds in the verses isn't as ear pleasing to me as something like Lovers Led Astray is haha. I definitely need to be in the right mood for Spook and Mercy. I enjoy the explicit story telling of it for the album, it's a pretty pivotal song for the album story, but definitely gonna be a Spooky Season song for me I think
I've seen this on a few year-end lists and I'm not surprised. It's still lacking that certain je ne sais quoi to make it a flawless album for me, but it's damn good.
i think this is their most consistent album and they really meet their ambitions here, even if i don’t quite love any song as much as “napalm girls” off the last one
I love how all three of their albums have such different feels, they're really good at switching it up every album so far Here's to hoping they keep getting bigger so they can afford to carry out crazier ideas
After sitting with this band now for almost 2 years of slowly exploring their stuff, I think I can safely say that the bridge for Born Cold is one of my all time favorite bridges/moments in music. Literally addicted to that bridge lol
Got recommended to check out this band (RIYL Creeper, Alk3, etc) and it turns out they have a guest feature from Will, which is pretty cool That said, it sounds like he recorded it on a telephone on the other side of the room, lol
Oooo that's an interesting sound re: The Nightmares. Might need to dive into their stuff a little bit and see what I like.
The Nightmares also features the vocalist from the band Sharks on drums and backing vocals which is cool. Miss that band.
I definitely did not see this band leaning so hard into sex/fetish imagery coming from the early days lol
Interesting sound. Can definitely tell why it didn’t make the album…has almost a whole diffferent sound to it. Some of the guitar tones feel much more like the previous album
