A big part of me will always miss what this band sounded like on Eternity, that was the sweet spot for my tastes, but this is fun. Feels like a natural progression for their sound after the last record

 

The more I’ve dug the more I’ve learned that yeah I think the bands earlier stuff is my favorite, BUT I’ve found stuff to love from after the first album, (born cold, cyanide, midnight, one of us, ghost brigade), and I don’t hate the 80s metal sound. But I do need a real good hook or some unique sound to really love it (ala me just discovering the ridiculously catchy Mary on a cross). Cry to Heaven had some of that, this one a little less so. Need to listen to it a few times and with headphones and get all the lyrics and what not

 

Second song doesn't do it for me as much as the first. Still looking forward to the album.

 

Wish the vocals were a little bit more prominent in the mix on both of these new songs

 

Yeah especially in the chorus Will seems very quiet. But it's a good song regardless

 

A few repeated listens and it's starting to grow on me. My son asked me to put a song on youtube earlier on our TV and when I brought it up creeper was the most recent search so he saw the still from the video and said "Thisone!" and then preceded to jump and dance around on the couch to it despite not hearing it before lol

 

Soooo update on this…whenever we put songs on YouTube now he asks for the “blood song” lol

 

First that isn't an instant banger to me, but I think this will be a grower.

 

I guess on a concept album about vampires I was destined to have a few songs on here that were too much about that for me to really get into haha. On 2nd listen on better speakers I liked it a little more, but definitely my least favorite of the 3 we've gotten so far. Very sisters of mercy. The outro part with the dual vocals is the best part for me.

Also made me realize it's kinda funny that Will sings more with an American accent while Hannah def keeps it british more. That "heart" at the end of her line really made it stand out for me haha. But again not to say Will sounds totally American when he's singing or anything, he def has his accent too, but feel like it's not as frequent as Hannah's. Or maybe I Just need to listen more haha

 

Also the 3rd song of 3 that would sound completely at home on an 80's teen vampire movie soundtrack though. Make a movie specifically so this can be the soundtrack

on some repeated listens I really enjoy the sound all around, it’s mroe the lyrics not doing it for me. This was bound to happen with this album though on a few songs because vampires aren’t really my thing haha. I never liked Your Neck by Alkaline Trio much either for similar reasons haha. But yeah the music, the singing, etc. Legit sounds like a mid-movie “the actions about to pick up” montage type scene in some 80s teen over the top campy vampire flick

What if I like Salem but I’ve never heard this band

 

Sooo this was literally my path into them lol

From what I remember, I went from a couple Salem songs (Fall out of Love, Destroy me), and from there the first Creeper songs I checked out that I liked were Black Rain and Black Mass. And then after that I think it was Suzanne, Hiding With Boys, Gloom, and Cyanide. Then from there it just kinda snowballed and I like a decent chunk of their songs now. The first few EPs and album are the ones that sound the most like Salem I think, but there's definitely some Salem elements on the 2nd album too. Like, "Throat" sounds like it coulda been on Creeper's 2nd album with some slight tweaks.

But yeah I would check out Black Rain, Gloom, Black Mass, Suzanne, Lie Awake, and Born Cold first. All mostly have that same combo of aggression+melodic catchyness that some of those Salem songs have.

Edit-Oh, and "Midnight" from the EP they put out during Covid is also really really good, as is the song "Ghost Brigade", which was a quick return to the faster punk sound

 

Black Heaven fucking slays.

 

So the reviews are in and are almost uniformly positive, with the one negative being apparently there's no Hannah-led track on this album.

This completely snuck up on me. Loved Sex, Death and the Infinite Void so will jump on this.

 

Excited for this. I’ll echo a couple of people that the more punk leaning stuff was way more my kind of thing, but whatever they turn their hands to, they end up doing well.

 

So their IG says this is out at 12 midnight BST....I beleive they're 5-6 hours ahead of us here on the east coast, so does that mean this is out now here since its 7PM?
