I'm sorry, but this is corny as hell. What the hell happened to these guys? Granted, I checked out a few years ago, but are they a parody band now? Genuine question.
Well I think every album has been a concept album of sorts…this one is they’re a band of vampires in the 80s traveling the country doing the whole sex/drugs/rock and roll thing and killing people and they’re being hunted by a vampire hunter. So basically lots of 80s vampire and grimey hair metal motifs so far lol. Wouldn’t call it a parody but definitely not being shy about what the influences are here
aw man no east coast dates. Hopefully they stick around for late spring/early summer and so some east coast dates
Some of this works for me and some of it I find super corny. I don’t mind that they went this route, and I realize this probably won’t happen, but I really hope they explore some faster/heavier stuff again for the next release. And drop the vampire bit lol
I of course started getting sick last night so feel like shit today and that makes it harder for me to sit down and listen. But the bits I’ve heard in their IG stories sound really good/more what I was looking for than the first two singles.
Dalgety is just so good for their sound. The album as a whole feels less corny than the singles made it seem tbh.
It's a riff on Meatloaf/ Steinman/ 80s Vampire movies. I'm not sure corniness even comes into it when it's so self aware.
Finally got to listen all the way through, definitely like it! Lyrics make it even MORE of a mood/season album sadly, I can't see myself revisiting it as much in the non-spooky season times than I have with the first one, but perfect Halloween drop. I need to listen all the way through a few more times if I get the chance to. I will say this does suffer from the same thing that Ghost's latest does for me, and that's just that the big 80's production combined with the heavily 80's sound makes the music start to blend together for me a bit. And much like Ghost's album, there aren't as many hooks on here to grab me outside of the singles. Sangivore 1 had a lot more catchy hooks I thought. I think the stand out for me is the closer. Really really good closer.
Yeah it makes such a difference having a proper closer, which is the one thing that Sanguivore was missing
Really? I lovvvved More Than Death! Thought it was a great wrap of of the ‘story’ on there. This one is much “bigger” sounding though, very beautiful
I phrased it wrong - I like More Than Death - but it's more of an epilogue; Sanguivore is missing a Famous Last Words or a Homecoming, the big song that the entire album builds towards I think they were trying for that with Black Heaven but I'm not convinced they pulled it off Conversely here Crimson Bride into Pavor Nocturnus is exactly what I'm looking for
Pavor Nocturnus is so good. I didn’t know I needed a Nick Cave/Rocky Horrror style song, but I really did. anyways every song on here rules. I want them to go further into the Black House/ Black Heaven style songs on the next album.
Finally got to this and it's unfortunately the weakest first impression an album of theirs has made on me but I still enjoyed it a lot, they are capable of writing such catchy songs. I wish Will would have shown a bit more range than just doing the low "goth" voice but that's just a me thing I love the heavy metal direction they've gone in on these last two (though I'm interested in seeing what they do next) and I REALLY fucking hope they are able to do a headlining tour in America finally
No I had the same thought earlier while listening to Napalm Girls…his low gothy voice is good but he sounds so good and unique at the higher end of his range too so I’d like him to mix it up more
