I mean it’s the 9th installment they have to do SOMETHING to keep it fresh haha so I thought the fight worked
Idk I kinda disagree. People go see films in this franchise for the same shit - they know what they should expect. All I need is a new match up lol I may be in the minority I’d prefer the entire last half hour play out like a full fight in real life. I want all the rounds and brutality. Almost like a complete showtime boxing match.
Enjoyed this a ton, but mostly distracted from the clear CGI use of Dodger stadium in the final scene.
This was fine-ish. I dug the last fight. Majors is the best part of something once again, wonder how soon until he wins an Oscar. Jordan’s performance on the other hand was a bit iffy.
had a really great time with this and quite a directorial debut for MBJ. that shot between the wall of them before Dame's first fight was tremendous. felt like the quick pace really enhanced it, they knew what to do and hit all the right beats.
I liked this! Better than 2 but not really close to 1. Majors is FEROCIOUS. I knew there was going to be *something* with the final showdown but didn’t know what. It totally worked for me. Realized after that scene that I had been holding my breath. Wish they had showed more of Dame before the final fight with Adonis. And agree with the thought about Adonis always needing to look like a great guy. Cute kid! The most I’ve enjoyed Tessa Thompson in this trilogy.
CGI stadiums/arenas have always looked whack to me in these movies. I missed Rocky too. Also I think like 30% of my enjoyment of these movies is seeing these shredded dudes lol
I was definitely entertained by it. Like, as a blockbuster, it does its job well. I just wished we got more of Dame. Like, it would have been nice to give him and his trainer some character like Drago. I thought it was hilarious when Creed pulls up to him on the beach, he had “Cobra Kai” levels of no-name goons for a guy that was locked up for 18 years. I get what they were going for with his daughter. With the main theme of Creed needing to address his demons and stop pushing them down. But the whole thing of Creed not being able to fight his way out of everything (and not passing that mindset to his daughter) felt like it was dropped completely. Like after he confessed to Thompson’s character, she was, out of nowhere, like “Okay, you told me your secret. You’re free to fight.” It felt like they were going for something deeper and gave up.
Really enjoyed this, it's number 2 in my Creed rankings largely because Jonathan Majors is a force. I thought the fight scenes were awesome but I think I love the idea behind the final fight better than the execution. The fade-away into surreality was awesome but some of it looked off (I didn't like the jail bars/cage effect). And the pacing of the fight was disorienting: they fight two rounds in front of a crowd, and then they go into that dreamlike sequence, and when they return to the normal stadium the commentators are like "yeah final round coming up" and it feels like you lost your bearings and it all goes by a bit too fast. Pacing was my main issue with the film overall. After Dame's heel turn, he kinda vanishes into the background until the final fight when he's walking out into the ring. The middle slows down and then everything from "Creed decides to come back" to "Creed's walking out to the fight" felt super rushed. Needed one more scene in there, maybe a press conference or something. I had no real idea where Creed was at emotionally as he entered the last fight. Despite those flaws I had a great time. Based on the box office numbers I'm sure we'll get another film and I'd love to see MBJ improve upon what worked in this film. Also I hope Majors takes the Apollo Creed role as the villain-turned-friend that stays on for future installments. He's a special actor.
This was great. The isolated final fight really blew me away. I’m very excited for Michael B Jordan’s future as a director.
I'm in the camp that didn't care for the smoke and mirrors of the final fight. I get it, but it just feels out of place. I need to rewatch the first two, but I think my favorite is the 2nd. I loved the whole fatherhood theme of it.
I dug this -- the first is still my favorite of the series, I just wish we got see more of Dame's come up. That said, bless Michael B. Jordan for wearing his love of anime on his sleeve.
Not a bad film, but I think my least favorite in the Creed series. The training/ fight just happened to quickly for me. I miss the Rocky IV training lol. I think its safe to say they can end this series now. Doesnt seem to be much more they can do.
Finally got around to watching this. Enjoyed it! The fight itself was kinda whatever, but the rest of the movie was a step up from Creed II imo. Keep it going, it’s my personal pick for most consistent film franchise.
