Counting Crows have released their new song “August and Everything After” exclusively on Amazon.

(January 24, 2019) – Today, Counting Crows release the highly-anticipated song, “August and Everything After,” available to stream and purchase on Amazon Music. The Amazon Original track was recorded November 2, 2018 with Composer Vince Mendoza and the London Studio Orchestra at the famed AIR Studios – listen to it here. In one of rock’s most mystifying stories, multi-platinum selling band Counting Crow’s 1993 breakout album was titled August and Everything After, but the album never featured the unfinished title track.
Originally a concept from the band’s frontman Adam Duritz, “August and Everything After” was the song the first album was named after but was a never completed track. The only place it survived was in the iconic album art. The lyrics seen in the background on the album cover released in 1993 are the original set of lyrics to “August and Everything After.” With the lyrics rewritten to complete the song, “August and Everything After” finally comes to life over two decades later as the band celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Of completing the recording Adam states, “I never really thought much about this song back in the day because it wasn’t finished. But when we got the chance to work with Vince Mendoza, I thought it was a good time to rewrite it and get it right. He came up with really interesting arrangement – not the whole band or the whole orchestra but parts of each – drums, bass, and pedal steel from us plus the string section and one cor anglais (kinda like a big oboe) from the LSO. It was magic recording it at AIR Studios in London. You can just feel the cool when you listen.”

Amazon Music listeners can simply ask, “Alexa play the latest song by Counting Crows” in the Amazon Music app for iOS and Android and on Alexa-enabled devices. In addition to the new track, Amazon Music listeners can access hundreds of Amazon Originals featuring both emerging and established artists across numerous genres, available to stream and purchase only on Amazon Music.

Music, a steady riot in my soul. Prestigious

The song is beautiful. Been waiting years to hear this, and it does not disappoint me.

Man there just isn't anyone quite like Adam and how he write his lyrics and sing each phrase.

    Aaaachem!

Someone needs to reign him in. I love Counting Crows but this bored the absolute piss out of me. I finally saw them live for the first time in like 15 years this summer and after a half dozen low-energy, 10+ minute renditions of deep cuts, almost the entire crowd left.

After 30 years people still don't know what they're getting when they go to a Counting Crows show?

Eh, it was marketed as a big summer hits show. Live absolutely killed, and the Crows' energy was just so, so low.

I agree that the Crows live are an acquired taste, and maybe not what everyone would expect or want. But come on, they have never, ever played a "big summer hits show." That's just not what they do. Anyone who has paid attention to that band over the course of their career should know what to expect. And I wouldn't call their shows "low energy." It's just a completely different kind of show than what bands like Live or Matchbox Twenty (who they toured with the previous summer) do. It's a lot more improvisational and spontaneous, versus a crowdpleasing sing-along set.

    all we have is time

Pretty sure the only “hit” they weren’t playing on that tour was “Accidentally in Love.” Not sure what else people were expecting? “Mr. Jones” has made nearly every show the past few years and they play “Long December” every night

I have seen Counting crows live 5/6 times over the years and every time it is a different show and even the same songs sound different from show to show. I think only the last time felt a bit phoned in, Adam pretty much admitted it saying he had gotten about an hours sleep due to jet lag and then media obligations (I live in England), but even that show was great. I remember reading an interview with Adam saying they can pretty much play every song in their back catalogue and just pick what they are feeling like on the day of a show.

The way they approached the “greatest hits” tour was perfect. Play the same way they’ve been playing for 25 years and fill the space in between with stories about how the songs were written.

I did run into a guy at a convenience store after the show who was pissed Adam didn’t sing Mr. Jones like he does on the record and said I wouldn’t understand because I wasn’t alive when the album came out. Ah, well
